Collaboration continues across Kansas to support UAS. Kansas Division of Aviation Director, Merrill Atwater reports that more than 30 representatives from Kansas aviation sectors including academia, military, and public and private aviation companies came together recently for active UAS discussions.
The Coalition for Kansas Unmanned Systems Society (CKUSS), along with the Kansas Department of Transportation Aviation Division, hosted an open forum on local and national UAS operations. Hot topics included discussions over UAS standardization such as aircraft certification standards, FAR part 107, and Section 333.
The group also highlighted UAS education for the public, maximizing aviation resources, and the potential that the State of Kansas holds with access to engineering, manufacturing, and military airspace. Joel Anderson, Director of Development at Kansas State University, expressed excitement for the growing potential for UAS in Kansas, noting, “We have an opportunity to make a difference for Kansas.” The CKUSS plans to continue open conversations with key officials and to collaborate across sectors to bring UAS to the forefront in Kansas.
