Women in Aviation: Expanding Opportunity, Strengthening the Industry

Aviation has always been an industry defined by precision, discipline, and innovation. But one of the most important shifts shaping its future isn’t happening on the runway, it’s happening within the people who power it.

The growing presence of women in aviation is not just a milestone worth celebrating, it’s a meaningful evolution that is strengthening the industry at every level.

From flight decks to maintenance hangars, operations teams to ownership roles, women are continuing to expand their impact across aviation. And organizations like Women in Aviation International (WAI), whose annual conference RealClean recently attended, are playing a critical role in accelerating that momentum, creating space for connection, mentorship, and long-term career growth.

Opportunity in a Changing Maintenance Landscape

Business aviation’s maintenance sector is under increasing pressure. Skilled technician shortages, longer maintenance queues, and growing aircraft utilization are reshaping how operators think about aircraft care and lifecycle management.

This shift presents a clear opportunity, not just for A&P technicians and MRO providers, but for adjacent service partners who help maintain aircraft condition, preserve asset value, and reduce downtime.

For professionals entering or advancing within aviation maintenance and support services, the path today is broader than ever before. Roles are no longer limited to traditional hangar-based work. Mobile service providers, specialized restoration teams, and on-demand support models are becoming essential extensions of the maintenance ecosystem.

But opportunity alone isn’t enough. The industry must continue creating pathways where technical skill, operational understanding, and service excellence are recognized and where professionals are empowered to build long-term careers within aviation.

At RealClean, we’ve seen firsthand how this evolution is opening doors. Women across our network are not only entering the aviation maintenance and support space, they’re building businesses, leading teams, and contributing meaningfully to the lifecycle care of aircraft nationwide.

Leadership That Reflects the Industry We Serve

Our local owners and operators include women who bring a wide range of aviation and business backgrounds into their markets. Their leadership reflects the evolving face of aviation, one that values operational expertise, relationship-building, and high standards of service.

“I’ve always been drawn to the level of discipline and professionalism aviation demands,” said Heather Tan, owner of RealClean’s New Jersey location. “Now we’re seeing more women not only enter the industry, but take ownership, lead teams, and shape how services are delivered.”

For many, aviation is not just a career, it’s a long-term commitment built on passion and precision.

“Aviation rewards those who are willing to invest in themselves and in others,” said Amber Brierly, the RealClean Orlando Brand Manager, flight instructor, and NBAA 40 under 40 alum.  “What’s exciting right now is the momentum around mentorship and development.  When you create pathways for people to learn, connect, and grow, you strengthen the entire industry.”

That sentiment reflects a broader truth: aviation rewards those who bring discipline, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence, regardless of how they entered the industry.

Building the Future of Aviation

The future of aviation will depend on its ability to attract, develop, and retain talent across all areas of the industry.

That means supporting:

  • Entrepreneurial pathways into aviation
  • Leadership development across all roles
  • Access to training, mentorship, and industry networks
  • A culture that values experience, accountability, and growth
  • Moving Forward

The conversation around women in aviation isn’t about checking a box, it’s about recognizing the value of experience, perspective, and leadership wherever it comes from.

The industry is evolving. The opportunities are growing. And the people stepping into those opportunities are helping shape what aviation becomes next.

At RealClean, we’re proud to be part of that progress, and to work alongside professionals who are helping move the industry forward every day.
