South Carolina Aviation Hall of Fame Inducts Three New Members at 2025 SCAA Annual Conference

The South Carolina Aviation Hall of Fame proudly inducted three remarkable individuals at the 2025 Annual Conference held in Greenville, SC, on February 13, 2025. The event was highlighted by a unique theatrical performance inspired by the Wright Brothers, presented by Hardin and his son, Tucker, setting the stage for the evening’s honors. Families of the inductees attended a banquet to celebrate their loved ones’ lasting contributions to aviation in South Carolina.

The 2025 South Carolina Aviation Hall of Fame inductees are:

Christopher Holder – A native of Pickens County, Chris Holder’s aviation career began at 15 when he started flying in a family of aviators. After serving as an Avionics Weapons Technician in the U.S. Marine Corps, he transitioned to civilian aviation and became a passionate advocate for aviation safety and education. In 1998, Chris founded the South Carolina AI Seminar, which has issued over 5,000 completion certificates and provides free training opportunities to aviation technicians. His commitment to accessible education and the global reach of the seminar during the pandemic has solidified its reputation as one of the premier events in the aviation industry.

Thomas E. “Stoney” Truett, III – Stoney Truett has been a vital force in South Carolina aviation for over 50 years. After starting flight training at just 16, he went on to a distinguished career as a flight instructor, corporate pilot, and passionate advocate for aviation history and safety. Stoney has flown over 154 aircraft models and has logged more than 13,000 flight hours. He has served as president of the South Carolina Breakfast Club since 2021 and has visited nearly every airport in the state. His dedication to training the next generation of aviators and his contributions to South Carolina aviation make him a true Elite Aviator.

Paul Werts – Paul Werts’ impactful career in aviation began in 1979 with the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission (SCAC), where he played a key role in several major state aviation projects. His leadership guided the development of the first statewide airport system plan and several critical infrastructure projects. As SCAC’s Executive Director from 2006 to 2018, Paul led efforts to modernize the agency, introduced innovative programs, and played a significant role in aviation legislation. His efforts led to a major economic development impact in the state’s aviation sector, culminating in his retirement in 2018 and the awarding of the Order of the Palmetto for his exceptional public service.

The induction ceremony was a moving tribute to their extraordinary careers, highlighting their dedication to shaping the future of aviation in South Carolina.
