The National Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO) along with a number of aviation associations congratulated Sean Duffy on his Senate confirmation as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT).

“NASAO congratulates Sean Duffy on his confirmation as Secretary of Transportation,” said Greg Pecoraro, NASAO President and CEO. “We look forward to working with him and other senior leaders at USDOT to enhance the world’s largest and safest aviation system. As he takes up his new duties, we hope he will prioritize filling the senior leadership roles at the FAA to provide the leadership and stability it needs.”

The General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA), NATA and NBAA also welcomed last week’s vote that confirmed Secretary Duffy, who led Wisconsin’s 7th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives for nearly nine years, a role that provided him with firsthand insight into the critical role of general aviation in rural locations without airline service.

“Sean Duffy brings extensive experience in navigating the congressional legislative process and in understanding the importance of transportation networks in creating opportunities for communities – both of which will be valuable assets in his new role,” said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. “His prompt confirmation as transportation secretary ensures that government and industry have continuity in leadership and decision-making about the safety, security and stability of all facets of the national transportation system, including business aviation.”

Prior to his election to Congress in 2011, Duffy worked in private law practice and later served as a prosecutor for Ashland County, WI. He was subsequently named acting assistant district attorney and district attorney for the county.

NATA congratulated Secretary Duffy and looks forward to partnering with him to further the safety and efficiency of the National Airspace System, while preserving the essential services that the industry provides to thousands of diverse communities across the nation. “During his confirmation hearing, Secretary Duffy demonstrated a commitment to these shared goals and a willingness to engage with Congress and industry stakeholders to ensure continued U.S. global aviation leadership,” stated NATA President and CEO Curt Castagna. “Secretary Duffy’s leadership will be critical to timely implementation of Congressionally mandated reforms to improve Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) efficiency and modernize regulatory oversight for NATA’s more than 3700 members. We stand ready to assist Secretary Duffy and his team with this important work.”

Duffy earned a bachelor’s degree from St. Mary’s College and his juris doctorate from William Mitchell College of Law. He joins USDOT from Fox Business Network where he was co-host of The Bottom Line.
