Belfort Demonstrating Dynamic Wind Modeling for Heliport Approaches at Heli-Expo

Baltimore, MD –February 17, 2009.

Using the latest computerized fluid dynamic modeling techniques, Belfort Instruments can determine the safest approaches to landing at helipads located near tall buildings or other obstacles.

  • What helipad wind speed and direction will produce dangerous vortices near or on approach to the helipad?
  • How accurately do helipad wind instruments represent wind conditions on approach to the helipad?
  • How should wind instruments be positioned near a helipad to best indicate flight risks?
  • How accurately do remote wind instruments represent true ambient wind and local wind conditions?

Belfort will graphically display wind speed and turbulence at a Hospital Helipad or any helipad under a variety of wind conditions to demonstrate the ability of modern fluid dynamic wind models to predict unsafe helicopter operation.
