FAA'S MURPHY ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT - State Aviation Journal

Douglas R. Murphy, FAA Regional Administrator for Southern Region announced that he is retiring next month. Murphy advised the FAA’s Southern Region Management Team during a conference call Wednesday evening, that he will retire from the FAA at the end of September after 44-plus years of service spanning 5 Regions, FAA Headquarters and 3 tours at the FAA Academy. This includes 21 years as a Senior Executive and the last 11 years as the Regional Administrator in Northwest Mountain and Southern Regions. “It has been both an honor and pleasure to work with many FAA and aviation professionals during my career,” said Murphy. “I will always value the lasting personal and professional friendships that resulted.”

Kim Stevens

Kim Stevens is the publisher of State Aviation Journal, which he founded in 2009. A longtime commercial-rated pilot, he was introduced to state aviation in 1992 as Director of the Nebraska Department of Aeronautics, later serving as Deputy Division Director for the Arizona Department of Transportation's Aeronautics Division. From 2013 to 2018, he was Director of Communications and Operations for the National Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO) in Washington, D.C. Relocating to North Carolina, Kim worked for the Raleigh-Durham International Airport for two years and now concentrates solely on the Journal. Prior to his aviation career, Kim spent a decade in the newspaper and magazine business.
