{"id":8680,"date":"2017-05-02T20:51:51","date_gmt":"2017-05-02T20:51:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/?p=8680"},"modified":"2017-05-02T20:51:51","modified_gmt":"2017-05-02T20:51:51","slug":"missouri-airport-managers-name-friend-of-aviation-award-recipient","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/missouri\/missouri-airport-managers-name-friend-of-aviation-award-recipient\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Missouri Airport Managers Name Friend of Aviation Award Recipient"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_8681\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 310px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-8681\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/FullSizeRender-300x257.jpg\" alt=\"Dr. John Horine, left and Brian Weiler\" width=\"300\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/FullSizeRender-300x257.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/FullSizeRender.jpg 454w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\"><em>Dr. John Horine, left and Brian Weiler<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Longtime aviation professor at University of Central Missouri (UCM) Dr. John Horine was presented the <strong><em>2017<\/em> <em>Friend of Aviation Award<\/em><\/strong> during an April 27<sup>th<\/sup> banquet at the Spring Conference of the Missouri Airport Managers Association (MAMA) held at the Lodge of the Four Seasons, Lake Ozark, Missouri.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Horine has been a fixture in Missouri aviation for many decades and helped countless students enter aviation career fields.\u00c2\u00a0 Retiring as professor emeritus of aviation, he started at UCM in 1961 as a professor of industrial arts and technology.\u00c2\u00a0 He served in that role until 1969, when he became Chair of the Department of Power and Transportation, which included aviation programs. He returned to full-time teaching in the department in 1990, and continues to teach aviation subjects in retirement on an adjunct basis.<\/p>\n<p>Through Dr. Horine\u2019s leadership and efforts, UCM\u2019s aviation program has grown into one of the largest and most respected university aviation training programs in the central United States, including programs for professional pilot, aircraft maintenance, and aviation management.\u00c2\u00a0 He also helped develop the master\u2019s degree program in aviation safety and directed Aerospace Education Workshop classes for teachers the past 35 years.<\/p>\n<p>As UCM aviation students graduated and excelled in their careers, he stayed in contact with many of his students and used those relationships to help new graduates.\u00c2\u00a0 Dr. Horine continues to stay active in state aviation issues by serving on MoDOT\u2019s Aviation Advisory Committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany, many aviation professionals across this nation and world, including me, have been touched by Dr. Horine\u2019s instruction, mentoring, and friendship\u201d said Brian Weiler, current MAMA President and director of the Springfield-Branson National Airport. \u00c2\u00a0The <em>Friend of Aviation Award<\/em> was developed to recognize individuals that have made a significant contribution to support Missouri aviation.<\/p>\n<p>In his remarks, Dr. Horine said he was touched and honored to accept this award, \u201cI have made many friends and had much career fulfillment supporting this aviation industry that I love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>MAMA is an organization comprised of administrators and operators of public use airports in Missouri.
