{"id":8348,"date":"2017-03-12T14:11:26","date_gmt":"2017-03-12T14:11:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/?p=8348"},"modified":"2017-03-12T14:11:26","modified_gmt":"2017-03-12T14:11:26","slug":"daher-salutes-europes-approval-of-single-turboprop-cat-ifr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/international-news\/daher-salutes-europes-approval-of-single-turboprop-cat-ifr\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Daher salutes Europe&#8217;s approval of single turboprop CAT-IFR"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-8349\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/unnamed-14-300x170.jpg\" alt=\"unnamed (14)\" width=\"388\" height=\"220\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/unnamed-14-300x170.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/unnamed-14.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 388px) 100vw, 388px\" \/>The European Union\u2019s approval of Commercial Air Transport operations for single-engine turboprop aircraft in instrument meteorological conditions (IMC) and at night has been welcomed by Daher, whose TBM very fast turboprop family is increasingly utilized worldwide on such flights.<\/p>\n<p>When the new regulations become effective on March 22, operators will have expanded opportunities to deploy single-engine turboprop aircraft on charters, corporate services and in other missions \u2013 benefitting from their efficiency and speed.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the excellent safety record of such turboprop aircraft \u2013 including Daher\u2019s TBM product line \u2013 approval for their commercial operation in IMC and at night has been granted progressively in North America and elsewhere around the world, except Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Supporting the changeover in Europe were national authorities such as France\u2019s Direction g\u00e9n\u00e9rale de l&#8217;aviation civile (DGAC), which granted an Aircraft Operator\u2019s Certificate in 2013 to Voldirect, an air taxi company based in western France at Rennes Bretagne Airport. An exemption for its commercial flights in night\/IMC conditions was provided by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).<\/p>\n<p>As a result, Voldirect became the first to operate commercial flights with a TBM in Europe, subsequently carrying some 2,100 passengers and logging 1,200 hours with a single TBM 850. This spring, Voldirect is introducing a second TBM 850 at its new base in Lyon, with a third is planned for an airport location to be announced.<\/p>\n<p>Another operator, St-Barth Executive, situated at the Gustaf III Airport on the Caribbean island of Saint-Barthelemy, has applied for a French Aircraft Operator\u2019s Certificate, and plans to be the first commercial operator of a TBM 900 version based in the French Antilles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe determination and hard work of operators such as Voldirect\u2019s Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Caussarieu and Vincent Beauvarlet from Saint-Barth Executive, along with leadership of the DGAC and EASA in bringing regulatory change, have been paramount in convincing European Union to allow commercial operations with single-engine turboprop aircraft,\u201d said Nicolas Chabbert, Senior Vice President of the Daher Airplane Business Unit. \u201cWe expect to see the TBM increasingly deployed in charters for on-demand transportation \u2013 especially from community airports, with operators benefitting from our aircraft family\u2019s speed, economical operating costs and the ability to serve smaller runways.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The European Union\u2019s approval of Commercial Air Transport operations for single-engine turboprop aircraft in instrument meteorological conditions (IMC) and at night has been welcomed by Daher, whose TBM very fast turboprop family is increasingly utilized worldwide on such flights.
