The Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics (ODAA) joined with state and local leaders to break ground last week on a new terminal building at Okmulgee Regional Airport, launching a more than $2.5 million investment in the airport\u2019s future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The $2,502,775 project will construct a new terminal building and make extensive supporting improvements to the airport grounds. Funding includes $602,775 in federal grant funds, $950,000 from ODAA, and $950,000 in matching funds from the City of Okmulgee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis project is exactly what strategic airport investment should look like,\u201d said Nick Young, ODAA Airports Division manager. \u201cWe\u2019re not simply building a new terminal; we\u2019re giving Okmulgee Regional Airport the infrastructure it needs to better serve businesses, pilots, and visitors for decades to come. With nearly $1 million in state funding supporting this project, Oklahoma is continuing to invest in a statewide airport system that connects our communities and creates opportunities for economic growth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new terminal is designed to serve as a modern gateway for pilots, passengers, and visitors arriving in Okmulgee. Architectural plans feature a distinctive aviation-inspired exterior design that incorporates prominent Okmulgee Regional Airport and \u201cOKM\u201d identification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Beyond the terminal itself, the project includes a new asphalt parking lot, sidewalks, ADA-accessible improvements, improved lighting, water and sewer connections, electric and natural gas service, and drainage improvements. Security and access improvements will include new fencing and a motorized gate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is a good example of what can happen when a community is willing to invest in itself and the state comes alongside it as a partner,\u201d said Sen. Bryan Logan, R-Paden. \u201cOkmulgee is putting real skin in the game, and I\u2019m proud to see state dollars coming back to District 8 to support infrastructure that will have a practical benefit for this community for years to come. Airports are part of the transportation network that keeps rural Oklahoma connected, competitive. and ready for new opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Oklahoma Department of Aerospace & Aeronautics Commissioners approved the state\u2019s $950,000 investment in the project at its July 15, 2026, meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Construction is planned as a 365-calendar-day project. Early work will include demolition, grading, drainage, utilities, road and parking lot construction, sidewalks and the terminal foundation before vertical construction of the building proceeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis new terminal will be something the entire Okmulgee community can be proud of,\u201d said Okmulgee Mayor Mickey Baldwin. \u201cFor many people who arrive here by air, this airport is their first impression of our city. We want that first impression to reflect the pride we have in Okmulgee, and the direction we\u2019re headed. The city\u2019s $950,000 investment in this project shows that we believe in the future of this airport, and the opportunities it can help bring to our community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The investment reflects a broader effort to strengthen Oklahoma\u2019s community airports with infrastructure that supports connectivity, business development, and long-term economic growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
