Photos provided by HDR.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The North Platte Regional Airport officially opened its new passenger terminal August 10th, marking a significant milestone for air transportation in western Nebraska. Federal, state, and local leaders joined airport officials for a ribbon cutting ceremony commemorating the opening of the $30 million facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hdrinc.com\/portfolio\/north-platte-regional-airport-passenger-terminal\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hdrinc.com\/portfolio\/north-platte-regional-airport-passenger-terminal\">terminal<\/a> represents the airport\u2019s largest commercial aviation infrastructure investment in more than 70 years, strengthening the only primary commercial airport serving much of western Nebraska.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/hdr-NP-terminal4-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-36231\" style=\"width:170px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/hdr-NP-terminal4-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/hdr-NP-terminal4-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/hdr-NP-terminal4.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Funding for the project was made possible through a combination of federal and state investments, including an $8 million Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Terminals Program grant. Additional support came through Congressionally Directed Spending, FAA entitlement funding, and the State of Nebraska.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;This terminal reflects what is possible when communities invest in their future,&#8221; said Airport Manager Justin Gosnell. &#8220;It improves the travel experience, expands opportunities for regional businesses, and strengthens connectivity for residents across western Nebraska.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The facility incorporates innovative sustainability features and is expected to achieve LEED Gold certification. Features include mass timber construction, geothermal heating and cooling, energy generating skylight glass, stormwater reuse systems and electric vehicle charging stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cProjects like this succeed because of strong partnerships and a shared commitment to creating something that will serve the community for decades to come,\u201d said HDR Project Manager Ryan Hanson. \u201cWe\u2019re grateful for the opportunity to support the North Platte Airport Authority throughout this journey and congratulate them on delivering a terminal that enhances the travel experience.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/hdr-NP-terminal2-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-36232\" style=\"aspect-ratio:0.7500059790017458;width:165px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/hdr-NP-terminal2-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/hdr-NP-terminal2-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/hdr-NP-terminal2.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The airport&#8217;s previous terminal, constructed in 1952, was built for a different era of aviation. \u201cAs passenger expectations and security requirements evolved over the decades, the aging facility became increasingly constrained, lacking space for modern baggage screening systems, passenger amenities, and comfortable waiting areas,\u201d said Hanson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTo address these limitations, the new terminal features jet bridge boarding, expanded concessions, improved passenger flow, enhanced security accommodations, and spacious waiting areas filled with natural light,\u201d said Hanson. \u201cIts design reflects the expectations of today\u2019s travelers while creating an inviting gateway to the community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hdrinc.com\/markets\/transportation\/aviation\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hdrinc.com\/markets\/transportation\/aviation\">HDR<\/a> has assisted the airport authority since the project\u2019s beginnings, including co-authoring the authority\u2019s FY2024 Airport Terminals Program application and advocating for the project with local, state and federal leaders. In total, the airport authority secured $21.8 million in federal funds for the new terminal, which is several times higher than the airport\u2019s annual budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">HDR also helped the airport authority modify its design, project delivery strategy and provided engineering and architecture support throughout construction.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/hdr-NP-terminal1-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-36233\" style=\"width:180px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/hdr-NP-terminal1-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/hdr-NP-terminal1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/hdr-NP-terminal1.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis project is a great example of how our engineering and architecture experts can work together to deliver a beautiful and modern structure for our airport clients,\u201d HDR Aviation Director Bill Peduzzi said. \u201cWe\u2019re proud to have worked alongside the North Platte Airport Authority to deliver a transformative project for western Nebraska.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Travelers began using the terminal August 11th, when the facility welcomed its first arrival.
