Aims Community College<\/a> Aircraft Maintenance student Kira Davis-Weber was honored with the prestigious $ 10,000 Centennial Airport Foundation Scholarship<\/a>, showcasing her dedication and potential in aviation maintenance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Centennial Airport Foundation awards annual scholarships to students pursuing careers in aviation and aerospace. Recipients are selected based on academic achievement, the quality of their application and their demonstrated commitment to a career in aviation. During the June Centennial Airport Board meeting, aviation industry leaders and community members recognized Davis-Weber, who accepted the scholarship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Davis-Weber, receiving the scholarship was both unexpected and affirming. \u201cMy very first thought was that it was definitely a prank call,\u201d she said. \u201cI did not think there was any way they could have possibly chosen me for this incredible honor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scholarship will help Davis-Weber continue working toward her Aircraft Maintenance Technician Associate Degree and Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Powerplant Certificate. \u201cHaving this scholarship helps relieve a good chunk of the stress and allows me to focus all of my energy on my classes,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond the financial support, Davis-Weber said the award reinforced her confidence in choosing aviation maintenance as a career. \u201cReceiving this scholarship has really helped affirm that aviation is where I am truly meant to be,\u201d she said. \u201cIt also means a lot to forging the trail for women in aviation maintenance. Everyone in the industry that I meet always tells me there are not enough women and to not give up on the path.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Davis-Weber credited the Centennial Airport Foundation for investing in aspiring aviation professionals. She also expressed gratitude to the Aims Aviation Department for its encouragement throughout her journey. \u201cEver since I showed up on their doorstep asking incessantly for information or tours of the new hangar, they have been welcoming, supportive and unwavering in their belief in me,\u201d she said. \u201cI also want to thank my incredible parents for fostering my dreams and letting me figure out exactly who I am.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scholarship recognizes Davis-Weber\u2019s academic success, commitment to the aviation maintenance profession and potential to contribute to the future aviation workforce. \u201cI don’t work hard for recognition or to earn awards,\u201d she said. \u201cI do it because it is who I am as a person. I will always strive to break down barriers, stand for those underrepresented, and support my fellow aviators, classmates and friends.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
