With an impressive 33-year career at the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), Smith has served the last decade as Regional Director for Central New York. In this role, he led a team of over 500 professionals across a six-county region, overseeing vital projects such as the I-81 Project\u2014NYSDOT\u2019s largest undertaking\u2014and key initiatives, including transportation improvements to accommodate the Micron Technology development. Smith\u2019s leadership ensured the delivery of annual and multi-year capital improvement plans for state and local highways, while fostering collaboration among government officials, developers, and community stakeholders. His legacy includes a pivotal role in advancing major infrastructure projects and demonstrating a steadfast commitment to the safety, efficiency, and modernization of Central New York\u2019s transportation system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
