Each year, these awards honor airports, governing bodies, and aviation professionals whose work strengthens airport operations, enhances safety, and advances aviation in Tennessee. The state presented the awards at the Tennessee Aviation Association\u2019s (TAA) 2026 Airports Conference in Murfreesboro, TN, late last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Airport of the Year<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"551\" src=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Lawrenceburg_Lawrence-County-Airport-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-34418\" style=\"width:369px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Lawrenceburg_Lawrence-County-Airport-edit.jpg 800w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Lawrenceburg_Lawrence-County-Airport-edit-300x207.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Lawrenceburg\u2013Lawrence County Airport (2M2)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lawrenceburg\u2013Lawrence County Airport earned this year\u2019s top honor for its significant progress in infrastructure development, community engagement, and long-term planning. The airport successfully advanced its corporate hangar project, replaced its fuel farm, and expanded outreach to the Tennessee aviation community through well executed airport events that support general aviation growth. The airport also adhered closely to its Airport Capital Improvement Plan (ACIP) and maintains a forward-looking vision through a 20-year Airport Layout Plan (ALP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe improvements at Lawrenceburg\u2013Lawrence County Airport stand testament to their hard work and dedication.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Governing Body of the Year<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"654\" height=\"370\" src=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Warren-County-Commission-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-34419\" style=\"width:384px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Warren-County-Commission-edit.jpg 654w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Warren-County-Commission-edit-300x170.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 654px) 100vw, 654px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Warren County Commission (Warren County Memorial Airport \u2013 RNC)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Warren County Commission is recognized for its exceptional leadership and commitment to airport development. Recent charter revisions strengthened airport governance and increased commissioner engagement with airport needs. In 2025, the Commission funded avigation easements, constructed a maintenance building to free additional T hangars for rent, prioritized zoning enforcement, and aligned hangar rental rates with market value. Since 2018, Janisch has overseen terminal modernization, 24\/7 pilot access, hangar improvements, enhanced security systems, and facility upgrades. Under his direction, based aircraft activity has quadrupled, and fuel sales have doubled, including a record setting month in July 2025. Janisch also expanded community engagement through the \u201cWings on Display\u201d event, drawing thousands of attendees and inspiring future aviators.
