The new flights will be operated by SkyWest Airlines seven days a week beginning March 24, 2026, expanding travel options and providing approximately 100 additional seats per day for area travelers. Lynchburg is currently served by several daily flights by American Airlines to Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT).

“This expansion represents a true team effort,” said Wynter C. Benda, City Manager. “With City Council’s leadership, a strong economic development strategy, and the ability to leverage federal air service development support, we have positioned Lynchburg for continued growth and greater connectivity.”

The service expansion marks the first time since 2011 that Lynchburg will be served by a second network carrier, signaling a significant step forward in improving air accessibility for Central Virginia travelers. Flights will be operated using 50-seat CRJ200 regional jet aircraft. Passengers can expect two daily departures from LYH to Dulles and O’Hare, providing flexible options for both business and leisure travel.

“This is a major milestone for Lynchburg Regional Airport and our region,” said Cedric Simon, Airport Director. “Access to two additional major hub airports means our travelers will have one-stop connections to more than two hundred destinations worldwide. This announcement represents years of hard work and collaboration between the Airport, the City of Lynchburg, our Economic Development partners and major stakeholders to strengthen our region’s connectivity and economic vitality.”

“Adding these new destinations strengthens Lynchburg’s connection to the world,” said Mayor Larry Taylor. “This is exactly the kind of progress we’ve been working toward,” said Marjette Upshur, Director of Economic Development and Tourism for the City of Lynchburg. “When you can hop on a jet right here at home and be in D.C or Chicago a couple of hours later, that’s a game-changer. It means more opportunities for our businesses, more visitors discovering our city and it shows that Lynchburg is on the map in a big way.”

Submitted by: Scotty Malta, A.A.E., C.A.E., Capt.
