The program is underway now and will run through spring of Fiscal Year 2027, over five construction seasons with maintenance work shutting down in winter months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur regional airports are vital economic engines that connect communities, support local businesses, and strengthen our statewide transportation network,\u201d said Transportation Secretary and CEO Monica Tibbits-Nutt. \u201cTimely preventative maintenance ensures these critical hubs remain safe, efficient, and ready to serve everyone who depends on them for business, travel, and emergency response.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPavement management is MassDOT Aeronautics Division\u2019s largest capital investment,\u201d added MassDOT Aeronautics Acting Administrator Denise Garcia. \u201cThis capital investment will extend the runway pavement\u2019s useful service and enhance safety for the flying public.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The on-call pavement maintenance program entails runway sealing and repair of airport pavement, surface treatments, cold in-place recycling, full-depth reclamation, and pavement removal. The program also includes the renewal of airport markings, surface preparation, pavement overlay, and erosion control as part of the restoration for both turf and paved runways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The maintenance contract is available to all airports MassDOT oversees, comprising 34 of the Commonwealth\u2019s 37 public-use airports (excluding only Logan, Hanscom, and Worcester, which are owned and operated by Massport).
