The day had a single goal: to inspire girls ages 8 to 17 toward careers in the STEM and aviation industries. From pilots, mechanics and air traffic controllers to engineers and flight attendants, the sky\u2019s the limit!<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"777\" src=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/6U3A2246-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-29967\" style=\"width:239px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/6U3A2246-edit.jpg 600w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/6U3A2246-edit-232x300.jpg 232w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Girls in Aviation Day blended history, science, and technology to spark curiosity with an aviation-themed curriculum. This year\u2019s event included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Nearly one dozen visiting aircraft on the ramp for participants to tour and talk with pilots<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Flight simulators and hangar talks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Hands-on mechanics experiences, drone \u201cSTEMonstrations\u201d and a meteorology workshop<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">A career fair with dozens of companies and organizations that spoke to the girls about how their jobs impact the aviation industry and how they can too<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">An inspiring lunch and panel discussion sponsored by H-E-B, featuring aviation industry leaders, Captain Teresa Ferry, Commanding Officer of Navy Reserve in Houston; Nia Gilliam, United Airlines Captain and Founder of Sisters of the Skies; and Marcela White, pilot and Owner of Tavaero Jet Charter and led by special guest moderator, Dr. Shelly Lesikar DeZevallos, pilot, president of West Houston Airport, and chair of the TXDOT Aviation Advisory Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Launched a decade ago by Women In Aviation International, this day celebrates the incredible achievements of women in aviation while inspiring the next generation of female aviators. 2024 marked the 10th anniversary of Girls In Aviation Day with thousands of girls participating around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"423\" src=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/6U3A2214-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-29968\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/6U3A2214-edit.jpg 700w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/6U3A2214-edit-300x181.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Girls In Aviation Day at LSFM was graciously supported by H-E-B, Tavaero Jet Charters, Universal Technical Institute, the Patricia Jayne Keefer Foundation, Million Air, Pennino &amp; Partners, Southwest Airlines, and Women in Aviation International Houston Chapter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Lone Star Flight Museum welcomed over 450 aspiring young aviators and their parents to the museum\u2019s Girls in Aviation presented by ExxonMobil, on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
