Our partnership with Burke County further enhances the airport\u2019s\nability to attract tax base and generate revenue,\u201d stated Mayor Guess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"431\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Hickory-Reg-Airport-T-s-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28668\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Hickory-Reg-Airport-T-s-edit.jpg 700w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Hickory-Reg-Airport-T-s-edit-300x185.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The City of Hickory and Burke County constructed the new\nhangars to create additional leased hangar space to better meet growing demand\nat the airport. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Named for their T-shaped structure, these individual hangars\nare designed to accommodate small to midsize aircraft that are currently\nleasing space in the larger group hangars. Once these planes move from the\ngroup hangars to individual T-hangars, additional aircraft can move to the\nHickory airport off the waiting list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This new hangar development aligns with the recommendations\nof the Hickory Regional Airport Task Force Report to promote and expand the\nassets at the airport to increase revenues through expansion of the number of\nbase aircraft. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plans are already in the works to build another set of\nT-hangars to further this goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe recognize the significant economic development\nopportunities that exist both within and around the airport property. We\u2019re\nlooking forward to leveraging these opportunities, our momentum from recent\nprojects, and our strong partnerships to better our communities,\u201d added Guess.\n\u201cAs we work together with our local partners and make investments to further\nsolidify Hickory Regional Airport as the aviation leader in Western North\nCarolina and a destination for aviation enthusiasts, there are no limits to the\nnew heights we can reach.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commissioner Burns echoed those sentiments, saying, \u201cThis\nproject, a testament to the collaborative spirit between Burke County and the\nCity of Hickory, is not just about infrastructure. It&#8217;s about the economic\nprosperity and growth that will ripple through our region for years to come. In\n2021, there were 55 aircraft at the Hickory Regional Airport. Today, that\nnumber has grown to 76 high-value planes. This exponential increase is not just\na statistic; it&#8217;s a reflection of the confidence that businesses and\nindividuals have in our community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During his remarks, Commissioner Carswell noted, \u201cThis\nmomentous occasion is not just about bricks and mortar, but it symbolizes the\nstrength of our collaboration, the unity of our communities, and the unwavering\ncommitment to progress and growth. These hangars stand as a beacon of\nopportunity, welcoming aviators and enthusiasts alike to our region, fostering\neconomic vitality, and opening doors to new horizons.
