{"id":28606,"date":"2024-04-24T21:57:15","date_gmt":"2024-04-24T21:57:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=28606"},"modified":"2024-05-06T22:06:02","modified_gmt":"2024-05-06T22:06:02","slug":"nbaa-lauds-draft-decision-preserving-business-aviation-access-to-dublin-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/international-news\/nbaa-lauds-draft-decision-preserving-business-aviation-access-to-dublin-airport\/%20","title":{"rendered":"NBAA Lauds Draft Decision Preserving Business Aviation Access to Dublin Airport"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) today\nwelcomed a draft decision by the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) to ensure continued\naccess to Dublin Airport (DUB) for general aviation (GA), including business\naircraft operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In late 2023, the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) proposed to\nban nonscheduled, \u201cad hoc\u201d flights to maintain total annual passenger counts at\nthe airport under the current limit of 32 million, even as discussions remain\nongoing to raise airport capacity to 40 million passengers. Such a cap would\nhave severely hampered business aviation access to the island nation, which\nsupports hundreds of U.S. businesses located there, and detrimentally impacted\nthe industry\u2019s 2,000-plus jobs and \u20ac1 billion contribution to the country\u2019s\neconomy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Issued April 11, the IAA draft decision for the winter\n2024\/2025 travel season determined the airport\u2019s current cap at 32 million\npassengers annually would only apply to traffic utilizing the facility\u2019s two\ncommercial airline passenger terminals, preserving GA and business aviation\naccess to DUB through at least March 29, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In comments submitted April 22 in support of the IAA draft,\nNBAA noted the agency\u2019s \u201cpragmatic\u201d approach in recognizing the potential\neconomic harm such a ban on GA operations would entail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis [decision] allows general aviation operations, including business aircraft operations, to continue providing important economic benefits to Dublin and the surrounding region,\u201d NBAA stated. Read NBAA\u2019s April 22, 2004, <a href=\"https:\/\/nbaa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/aircraft-operations\/international\/europe\/20240422-NBAA-Letter-Support-IAA-Winter-2024-Coordination-Parameters.pdf\">letter to the Irish Aviation Authority<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iaa.ie\/docs\/default-source\/car-documents\/1c-economic-regulation\/w24-draft-decision_final.pdf\">IAA\u2019s draft decision<\/a> follows <a href=\"https:\/\/nbaa.org\/aircraft-operations\/international\/europe\/nbaa-raises-alarm-over-potential-ban-on-ga-flights-at-dublin\/\">appeals<\/a> by NBAA to the U.S. ambassador to Ireland and the Irish ambassador to the U.S. regarding the threatened action. The association also worked with the Irish Business and General Aviation Association (IBGAA) and European Business Aviation Association (EBAA) to ensure officials understood the potential ramifications to Ireland\u2019s business community and tourism industry should such a ban be imposed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the draft decision would exempt GA traffic movements\nfrom the capacity limit for the time being, the IAA noted that subsequent\napplicability \u201cwill be kept under review for future seasons,\u201d despite what the\nagency conceded is the industry\u2019s minimal impact on operations at DUB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c[I]n any event, the question is of limited materiality in\nthe context of volume of GA passengers, of which there were less than 18,000 in\n2023,\u201d the IAA noted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) today welcomed a draft decision by the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) to ensure continued access to Dublin Airport (DUB) for general aviation (GA), including business aircraft operations.
