For aviation enthusiasts<\/a> and local residents across the country, the best way to celebrate is by tuning into AOPA\u2019s YouTube channel (@flywithaopa) at 11:45 a.m. Easten time on May 11. AOPA\u2019s Tom Haines and noted aviation journalist Miles O\u2019Brien will be hosting the live flyover\u2014commentating as the aircraft fly above the Lincoln Memorial, down Independence Avenue, and past the Washington Monument. <\/p>\n\n\n\nElected officials in cities and states across the U.S. are\njoining the celebrations in recognition of the economic and social value\ngeneral aviation brings to their communities. Through the issuance of formal\ndeclarations, governors, mayors, and legislators are proclaiming General\nAviation Month, National Celebration of GA Flyover Day, National Aviation\nFlyover Day, and more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
AOPA has received governor\u2019s proclamations from Georgia,\nKansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, North Carolina,\nPennsylvania, South Carolina, Utah, Washington, and West Virginia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Arizona, California, Indiana, and Tennessee also issued\nlegislative resolutions for the event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thanks to support from the Alliance for Aviation Across\nAmerica, several cities are participating through city mayoral proclamations,\nincluding Cartersville and LaGrange in Georgia; Crawfordsville, Frankfort,\nGreencastle, and Lafayette in Indiana; Madisonville, Murray, and Paducah in\nKentucky; Sanford, Maine; Salisbury, Maryland; and Wildwood, New Jersey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The proclamations will be displayed at AOPA headquarters in\nFrederick, Maryland, on May 11\u2014where the fleet of 60 aircraft, organized into\n15 chapters of history, will take off and land for the National Celebration of\nGeneral Aviation D.C. Flyover. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Maryland Aviation Administration is the presenting\nsponsor of the Flyover. Other supporting sponsors include AMBA, Piper,\nSignature Aviation, and the Titan Aerobatic Team. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
