In this role, Nelson will\nact as intergovernmental liaison with federal, state and local governments on\nbehalf of the MAC. Most recently, she served as the MAC\u2019s director\nof stakeholder engagement since 2019. In that role, she tracked federal and\nstate policies on aircraft noise and advised leadership on emerging issues. She\nalso served as a liaison with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA),\nrepresenting the MAC\u2019s interests on topics including airport runway use,\nairspace, and air traffic control procedure development. During her time as\ndirector of stakeholder engagement, she developed strong working relationships\nwith community groups, elected officials, regulating agencies and other\nstakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to her role directing stakeholder engagement, she\nserved as the MAC\u2019s manager of noise, environment and planning from 2015 to\n2019. She got her start at the MAC as a noise and operations information\nspecialist in 2009.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDana is an excellent choice to represent the MAC in our\nengagement with government officials and stakeholders,\u201d said MAC CEO Brian\nRyks. \u201cShe has a proven track record of building relationships based on mutual\nrespect and trust. She has demonstrated a consistent ability to seek out common\nground and effectively address complex issues. We look forward to having her\nrepresent our organization in her new role.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A licensed pilot, Nelson has won numerous awards and\nrecognition for her work at the MAC. In 2021, she was recognized as one of\nAirport Business Magazine\u2019s Top 40 Under 40. She was part of a team that earned\nthe 2017 Environmental Achievement Award in Innovative and Special Projects\nfrom Airports Council International, and she recently received an internal\naward from the MAC honoring her work engaging stakeholders during development\nof the long-term plan for Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBuilding relationships and connections is a key role for\ngovernment relations teams, and we are thrilled to add Dana to our team,\u201d said\nMAC Vice President for Government Relations Mitch Killian. \u201cAs we engage with\nelected officials and government agencies on aviation and airport issues,\nDana\u2019s knowledge and skills will help the MAC tell its story and ensure\nmutually beneficial outcomes for our organization, our stakeholders and our\nregion.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) has selected Dana Nelson to serve as director of governmental affairs.
