Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) will host its annual Runway\n5K on Saturday, August 17, where runners and walkers will make their way down\nTaxiway Bravo while planes take off and land on the adjacent runway. All\nparticipants must pre-register. The event is limited to 1,000 racers\/walkers\nand sells out every year. (Spectators are not required to register.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To guarantee a race t-shirt, participants must register no\nlater than 9pm August 6. After that, t-shirts are available while supplies\nlast. Race registration will close 9pm August 14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Runway 5K raises funds to support local aviation\nscholarships administered by both A-B Tech Department of Aviation and the\nWestern North Carolina Pilots Association Educational Foundation, as well as\nfunds to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of WNC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event will take place on the north end of the airfield,\nwith parking in a nearby area. All participants will be shuttled to the event\nsite, which is in a secure area near the airfield. Food trucks offering coffee,\npastries and donuts will be at the event, as well as music, merchandise,\nspecial photo opportunities and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The AVL Runway 5K is brought to the region in partnership\nwith Hunter Subaru, Gresham Smith, Hensel Phelps, and Paradies Lagardere.\nAdditional sponsors to date include: Avcon, SM&E, CHA and Tennoca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
