\u201cThis bill is a critical investment in our state\u2019s aviation\ninfrastructure, ensuring our public use general aviation airports have the\nresources they need to thrive,\u201d Governor Laura Kelly said. \u201cBy boosting funding\nto the Aviation Fund, we\u2019re enhancing safety and supporting economic\ndevelopment across Kansas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
House Bill 2498 increases annual funding for the Kansas\nAirport Improvement Program (KAIP) from $5 million to $15 million. This\nincreased funding will provide funding to public airports across the state to\nallow them to modernize and address infrastructure needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cKey to KDOT\u2019s support of increased funding for the state\u2019s\n109 public use airports has been the agency\u2019s ongoing collaboration with the\nKansas Association of Airports and our local and federal partners,\u201d said Kansas\nDepartment of Transportation Secretary Calvin Reed. \u201cThese airports generate\nover $9 billion in annual economic output. The KAIP program helps this\nimportant industry remain a vital part of the Kansas economy. That translates\ninto jobs and quality of life for the residents of Kansas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These additional resources will support essential\ninitiatives such as pavement improvement, safety enhancements, and automated\nweather observation systems, which are crucial for air ambulance services in\nrural areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe additional funding provided by this bill will help\nmaintain the pavement conditions of our state\u2019s general aviation airports,\u201d\nsaid Kansas State Senator Mike Petersen, District 28. \u201cThese airports are very\nimportant to our economy and to providing air ambulance access to trauma\ncenters for many of our rural citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
