{"id":28148,"date":"2024-03-17T23:28:59","date_gmt":"2024-03-17T23:28:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=28148"},"modified":"2024-03-17T23:29:01","modified_gmt":"2024-03-17T23:29:01","slug":"aviation-labor-coalition-warns-of-harm-from-tax-proposals-targeting-business-aviation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/national-news\/aviation-labor-coalition-warns-of-harm-from-tax-proposals-targeting-business-aviation\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Aviation-Labor Coalition Warns of Harm from Tax Proposals Targeting Business Aviation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A diverse coalition of aviation and labor organizations have\njoined in opposing proposals in the Biden Administration&#8217;s fiscal year 2025\nbudget and regulatory changes that single out business aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following a troubling State of the Union reference to\ngeneral aviation, President Biden recently unveiled an FY25 budget plan that\nincludes a five-fold fuel tax increase on business aviation, as well as changes\nto the depreciation schedule for a purchased business aircraft, from five to\nseven years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The groups\u2019 March 14 letter was sent to U.S. Senate\nCommittee on Finance Chairman Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Ranking Member Mike Crapo\n(R-Idaho), and U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith\n(R-8-Mo.) and Ranking Member Richard Neal (D-1-Mass.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Signing the letter were the leaders of the Aircraft Owners\nand Pilots Association (AOPA), Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), General\nAviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA), International Association of\nMachinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), National Air Transportation Association\n(NATA), National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), NetJets Association of\nShared Aircraft Pilots (NJASAP) and Vertical Aviation International (VAI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/noplanenogain.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/The-Real-World-of-Business-Aviation-2018-Survey-of-Companies-Using-General-Aviation-Aircraft.pdf\">2018 Harris Poll<\/a>, 85% of companies relying on an airplane to meet their transportation challenges are small and mid-size enterprises,&#8221; the groups wrote. &#8220;The passengers aboard a business airplane are typically technicians, mid-level managers and customers, not C-suite executives.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Read the <a href=\"https:\/\/download.aopa.org\/advocacy\/2024\/coalition_letter_031424.pdf\">Coalition Letter<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those companies use business aviation to optimize\nefficiency, productivity and flexibility, the letter continued. Additionally,\nfurther levies would harm communities that depend on business aviation for\nessential lift and to support law enforcement, medevac and humanitarian\noperations utilizing business aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Negative tax proposals would also adversely impact an\nindustry that supports 1.2 million jobs and contributes nearly $250 billion to\nthe country&#8217;s gross domestic product. The coalition further warned of their\nimpact to the industry\u2019s continued role as \u201can innovation incubator\u201d driving\nthe aviation industry\u2019s advancement toward greater safety, sustainability and\nnet-zero carbon emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe health and livelihood of our industry is dependent on\nhaving an effective, reliable, and conducive regulatory and business\nenvironment,\u201d the coalition continued. \u201cHarmful tax proposals go in the wrong\ndirection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Rather than ill-considered tax proposals and\nregulatory changes, we urge Congress to partner with the business aviation\ncommunity, which is leading the way in developing new and innovative safety and\nenvironmental technologies, connecting communities, creating jobs, and\nbenefiting American businesses of all sizes,&#8221; the letter concluded.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A diverse coalition of aviation and labor organizations have joined in opposing proposals in the Biden Administration&#8217;s fiscal year 2025 budget and regulatory changes that single out business aviation.
