This work is part of the RESTORe-CARE Drone AED Delivery Program led by Duke University School of Medicine and funded by an <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.heart.org\/news\/20-million-awarded-for-scientific-research-to-address-health-challenges-in-rural-areas\">American Heart Association (AHA) grant<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Details of the required capabilities and submission requirements are outlined in the <a href=\"https:\/\/netorgft1052749-my.sharepoint.com\/personal\/basil_hovecon_com\/_layouts\/15\/onedrive.aspx?id=%2Fpersonal%2Fbasil%5Fhovecon%5Fcom%2FDocuments%2FAED%5FRFI&amp;ga=1\">Request for Information<\/a> (RFI) issued today. Responses must be received by Project Engineer Ben Spain via email to ben.spain@hovecon.com no later than March 15, 2024.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Annually, over 350,000 individuals experience a\nlife-threatening event known as sudden cardiac arrest. Surviving a cardiac\narrest is challenging, yet prompt medical intervention, such as CPR and the\ndeployment of an AED, can increase survival chances. The American Heart\nAssociation states that 90% of cardiac arrest victims who are shocked by an AED\nwithin the first minute survive. Currently, emergency responders take\napproximately 8-10 minutes to reach most patients suffering from cardiac arrest\noutside of a hospital setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The RESTORe-CARE Drone AED Delivery Program aims to reduce emergency response times, particularly in rural areas where access to medical care is limited. Early results from <a href=\"https:\/\/medicine.duke.edu\/news\/trailblazer-monique-starks-flies-high-promising-aed-drone-delivery-network\">Duke University led research<\/a> sponsored by the National Institutes of Health show that response times can be reduced enough to meet the critical five-minute resuscitation window when using a drone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are excited to see which drone delivery solutions can\npotentially support our research and ultimately improve outcomes for sudden\ncardiac arrest in rural America,\u201d said Hovecon President Rebecca Yap.&nbsp; \u201cWe are fortunate to be a part of this grant\nwhich will lay the framework for AED drone delivery nationwide.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hovecon will host a vendor demonstration day for interested\nRFI respondents, to allow research partners, including Duke University School\nof Medicine, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Medical Center\/Medical\nCollege, Forsyth County Sheriff&#8217;s Office, and James City County Police\nDepartment.
