In his recent director roles for the\nstate of Minnesota, he developed and executed a wide range of campaigns and\nemergency response communications adapting messaging across traditional and\ndigital channels based on content and audience targets. He provided strategic\ncommunications counsel and support for executive leadership teams and acted as\na liaison with partner organizations across federal, state and local government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMichael has a tremendous background in Minnesota government\nand deep community connections developed over his many years in communications\nleadership,\u201d said Brian Ryks, CEO of the MAC. \u201cHis experience will further\nenhance a prime focus area for the MAC in proactive stakeholder and community\nrelations to share how the dynamic activities at our airports support travel\nand business growth across the region and the state.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Schommer was most recently the director of communications\nfor the Minnesota Department of Health, a position he held for a decade. Prior\nto that, he served as communications director of the Minnesota Department of\nAgriculture. In those positions, Schommer worked with senior leaders and\nprograms to develop communications strategies that maximized impact and\nadvanced organizational goals. He enhanced communications programs at each\ndepartment, building capacity in social media, internal communications, planning\nand crisis communications.
