{"id":27802,"date":"2024-02-12T17:02:51","date_gmt":"2024-02-12T17:02:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=27802"},"modified":"2024-02-12T17:02:53","modified_gmt":"2024-02-12T17:02:53","slug":"nbaa-welcomes-house-committees-call-to-action-on-mental-health-in-aviation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/national-news\/nbaa-welcomes-house-committees-call-to-action-on-mental-health-in-aviation\/%20","title":{"rendered":"NBAA Welcomes House Committee\u2019s Call to Action on Mental Health in Aviation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) welcomes\nthe House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee\u2019s call for \u201cdecisive\u201d\nfederal action to remove barriers that discourage pilots from reporting and\nseeking care for mental health issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee leaders recently sent a bipartisan<a href=\"https:\/\/transportation.house.gov\/uploadedfiles\/2024-02-07_--_ti_bipartisan_letter_to_faa_on_mental_health.pdf\"> letter<\/a> to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) from more than 40 members of Congress encouraging the agency to update its mental health protocols to ensure pilots get mental health care in a timely manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNBAA appreciates the leadership from the House\nTransportation and Infrastructure Committee emphasizing the need to address\nmental health in aviation,\u201d NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen said. \u201cThis issue\nis a priority for business aviation, and we know it\u2019s a priority for FAA and\nNational Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) because it\u2019s vital to aviation\nsafety. We will continue to work with the agencies, Congress and others to\nensure those in our industry can get mental health care without concerns over whether\ndoing so will impact their employment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The letter from House leaders comes on the heels of the\nrecent formation of a government-industry group established to focus on mental\nwellness. In December, the FAA formed the Mental Health and Aviation Medical\nClearances Aviation Rulemaking Committee (ARC). NBAA has representation on the\npanel, which will provide recommendations to the agency on ways to identify and\nbreak down barriers that discourage pilots from reporting and seeking care for\nmental health issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Representatives from NBAA also participated in a December\nNTSB summit that discussed mental health stigmas in the aviation industry, how\nto put an end to them and provide help to those in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NBAA supports efforts by Congress to address the issue in\nthe FAA reauthorization bill that passed the House and is ready for Senate\nfloor action.
