McFarland\nJohnson is providing terminal planning, environmental reviews, program\nfinancial planning, and engineering design along with construction\nadministration, grant administration, and program management for this over\n$47.8M project transforming the passenger terminal building at the Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/McFarland-Johnson-2-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27753\" width=\"280\" height=\"190\"\/><figcaption> <em>Chad Nixon, President, McFarland Johnson speaks at the Greater Binghamton Airport Groundbreaking Ceremony sharing the importance the airport improvements are to the community and growth in the area.  <\/em> <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>A special ground-breaking ceremony was held on January 25,\n2024, to commemorate the beginning of this major terminal renovation at Greater\nBinghamton Airport. McFarland Johnson (MJ) joined Broome County and Airport\nofficials along with other community leaders and project team members for the\ngroundbreaking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur employee owners are proud to be a part of this\ncommunity and this project. We have a vested interest in the growth and\nsustainability of Greater Binghamton Airport and Broome County,\u201d shared Chad\nNixon, President, McFarland Johnson. \u201cThese improvements and this project will\nsupport hundreds of jobs in the community and the region. Regional airports\nlike the Greater Binghamton Airport provide a connection to the world which is\ncritical for economic growth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"574\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/McFarland-Johnson-3-1024x574.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27752\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/McFarland-Johnson-3-1024x574.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/McFarland-Johnson-3-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/McFarland-Johnson-3.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption><em>Greater Binghamton Airport rendering of new terminal. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Components of the project, including the renovation of\napproximately 45,000 square feet of existing terminal space. The design\nincorporates sustainability features such as a significant expansion to the\nexisting geothermal well field at the Airport to provide cooling for the\nentirety of the new building. In addition, the new 2-lane exterior roadway\ncanopy has been designed to enable the future installation of solar panels for\nadditional energy production. The renovated portion of the terminal building was\nalso designed to meet current building and energy code requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other modernizations include construction of three entry\nportals, improvements to the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire\nprotection systems, a larger 6,000 square foot holdroom with two passenger\nboarding bridges, and the repurposing of space for the construction of a new\ngeneral aviation terminal on the eastern side of the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, other components will include the construction of a new multi-purpose room, improvements to motor vehicle approach to the airport, and the installation of new equipment within the airport parking lots.
