The Lone Star Flight Museum (LSFM) has announced the\nselection of four new inductees into the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame (TAHOF).\nThe TAHOF selection committee has named Colleen C. Barrett, R. Walter\nCunningham (posthumously) Wally Funk and Heather Wilson to the Class of 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This esteemed group will be officially inducted on Friday,\nApril 19 at the 2024 Texas Aviation Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and\nluncheon at the Lone Star Flight Museum located at Houston\u2019s Ellington Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Douglas H. Owens, Lieutenant General (ret), and President\n& CEO of the museum, said, \u201cWe are thrilled about these four worthy\nindividuals going into the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame. Supporters of the Hall\nof Fame are who make this ceremony possible for these amazing people. We are\nexcited to honor all of them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2024 Inductees:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

COLLEEN C. BARRETT served as President of Southwest Airlines\nfrom 2001 to 2008 as the first female president of a major airline. Her\nbusiness savvy and genuine heart for others laid the foundation for Southwest\nAirlines\u2019 one-of-a-kind culture and legendary customer service. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

R. WALTER CUNNINGHAM (1932-2023) served his country as a\nUnited States Marine Corps fighter pilot in Korea before traveling to space as\nan Apollo 7 astronaut and leading NASA\u2019s Astronaut Offices\u2019 Skylab branch until\n1971.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WALLY FUNK is a trailblazer. A member of the Mercury 13\n\u201cWomen in Space\u201d program and the first female FAA flight inspector and National\nTransportation Safety Board air safety investigator, she is the oldest woman to\nfly in space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HEATHER WILSON was the 24th Secretary of the Air Force. She\nalso served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives and is currently\nthe President of the University of Texas at El Paso.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Texas Aviation Hall of Fame was established in 1995\nthrough a resolution by the 74th Texas Legislature and signed by then Gov.\nGeorge W. Bush to honor and recognize Texans and Texas companies or\norganizations that have made significant and lasting contributions to the\nadvancement of aviation. There are currently 93 individuals and groups in the\nTexas Aviation Hall of Fame, in four categories which include trailblazers and\nexplorers, wartime aviators, leaders, entrepreneurs and innovators. The 2024 Texas\nAviation Hall of Fame inductees join an impressive list of past inductees\nrepresenting trailblazers and explorers such as Bessie Coleman and Wiley Post;\nleaders such as Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, George H.W. Bush and George W.\nBush; World War II aviators Tex Hill, the Doolittle Raiders, Tuskegee Airmen\nand Women Airforce Service Pilots; astronauts Eileen Collins, Joe Engle and\nGene Cernan; and entrepreneurs Howard Hughes and Rod Lewis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
