{"id":27623,"date":"2024-01-15T15:10:30","date_gmt":"2024-01-15T15:10:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=27623"},"modified":"2024-01-15T15:10:31","modified_gmt":"2024-01-15T15:10:31","slug":"airport-improvements-announced-for-whitehorse-intl-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/international-news\/airport-improvements-announced-for-whitehorse-intl-airport\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Airport Improvements Announced for Whitehorse Int\u2019l Airport"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Canadian Minister of Transport, Pablo Rodriguez,\nannounced an investment of up to $186.2 million under the National Trade\nCorridors Fund for a project that includes major upgrades at the Erik Nielsen\nWhitehorse International Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The airport infrastructure requires improvements to maintain\nexisting essential services such as passenger and charter flights, as well as\ncargo handling activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re investing in the Erik Nielsen Whitehorse\nInternational Airport to support the growth of the tourism and economic sectors\nin Yukon,\u201d said the Honorable Pablo Rodriguez Minister of Transport.\n\u201cStrengthening our supply chains also means Canadians in Northern communities\ncan more easily have access to the goods they need, when they need them and at\nfair prices.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project consists of four main improvements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>upgrading the parallel runway<\/li><li>reconstructing the main runway<\/li><li>replacing the Whitehorse air maintenance\nfacility, and<\/li><li>building a new rotary operations (helicopter)\narea.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to upgrading the airport&#8217;s critical\ninfrastructure, the project aims to enhance safety measures and increase\noperational capacity to better support Yukon&#8217;s mining and tourism sectors. The\nproject will also work to increase the airport&#8217;s resilience against the impacts\nof climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Government of Canada continues to make investments to\nstrengthen the country&#8217;s supply chains, promote economic growth and enhance the\nopportunities for our businesses to expand into global markets.
