The Board,\nchaired by Governor Wes Moore and including Comptroller Brooke Lierman and\nChief Deputy Treasurer Jon Martin, approved the nearly $32 million contract\nthat will replace pavement and enhance the airport runway, improve taxiway\nconnections and upgrade electrical components, including the installation of\nLED airfield lighting and signage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis investment by the Board of Public Works paves the way\nfor a significant advancement in economic development at Martin State Airport,\u201d\nsaid Maryland Transportation Secretary Paul Wiedefeld. \u201cThe rehabilitation\nproject will bring important improvements to the airport and ensure it is\nbetter equipped to meet the needs of its customers.\u201d&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe thank the Board of Public Works for this important\ninvestment to maintain and improve the airfield at Martin State Airport, a\ncritical part of the Maryland aviation system,\u201d said Ricky Smith, Executive\nDirector\/CEO of the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Aviation\nAdministration. \u201cThis work will help ensure a safe, efficient airport that\nmeets the highest standards for our customers and partners.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P. Flanigan and Sons Inc. of Baltimore was awarded the\nconstruction contract. A 21% Disadvantaged Business Enterprise participation\ngoal was established for the contract. The preliminary schedule calls for the\nairfield work at Martin State to begin in the spring. Construction is expected\nto last for approximately 255 days. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Martin State Airport is a general aviation airport that\nsupports a variety of services, including corporate and private aviation,\nflight schools, law enforcement and the Maryland Air National Guard.
