The Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics (ODAA)\nhas named Sandra Shelton as its Director of Government Affairs, Industry\nDevelopment, and Communications. In this position Shelton will be responsible\nfor the agency\u2019s marketing and communications initiatives, legislative and\ncongressional affairs activities, and spearheading industry outreach and\ndevelopment efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to Shelton joining the Department in April of 2016 as\nthe Aviation Education Coordinator and Government Affairs Liaison she had\nserved over 20 years in state government. \nShe has worked with both political parties in the Oklahoma State Senate\nand House of Representatives as well as several other state agencies over her\nnearly 27-year career in public service to the State of Oklahoma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During her tenure with ODAA Shelton served as the creator\nfor many of the agency\u2019s very successful outreach efforts including the 2017\nlaw that instituted December 9th as Oklahoma Women in Aviation and Aerospace\nDay in state statute. She is also the principal for organizing the State\u2019s\nannual \u201cAERO Oklahoma\u201d advocacy day at the Capitol during the legislative\nsession. Both events bring over 1,000 Oklahomans together each year to\ncommemorate, support, and advocate for the state\u2019s second largest industry, as\nwell as encouraging students to consider careers in the aerospace industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shelton has advocated for and successfully passed over two\ndozen pieces of aviation and aerospace legislation on behalf of the Department\nand raised tens of thousands of dollars for charitable organizations that\nrepresent the industry. Just last year she was honored with the National Medal\nof Merit award by the local, state, and national Air and Space Forces\nAssociation for her service to the association which serves the needs of active\nduty, reserve, and veteran military members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFrom the day Sandra started at the Department she helped\nthe organization with developing a vision for the future, bringing new ideas\nand energy to the agency\u2019s mission to enhance and support the state\u2019s aviation,\naerospace, and defense industry. She brings people together while encouraging\ncollaboration between public and private entities to ensure the industry has\nthe support it needs,\u201d said Grayson Ardies, Executive Director for ODAA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shelton currently serves on the Board of Directors as the\nSecretary for the Oklahoma State Senate Historical Preservation Fund, Inc.,\nwhich administers various art projects at the Oklahoma State Capitol. She\nserves as Vice President of Communications for the Oklahoma Air and Space\nForces Association in a volunteer role and has also served in the private\nsector as a social media manager with expertise in layout and design, film\nproduction, and digital media strategy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
