Several general aviation (GA) groups have advised Congress\nthat continued short-term extensions of authorization for the Federal Aviation Administration\n(FAA) would \u201cchallenge the certainty that industry and the FAA depend on to\nenable long-term planning and investment in many critical areas required to\nensure the safety of the NAS and America\u2019s global leadership in aviation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The agency is currently authorized through Dec. 31. In July,\nthe House of Representatives passed bipartisan reauthorization legislation for\nthe FAA through 2028. That legislation is awaiting Senate action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The GA organizations submitted a written statement to the\nHouse Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation\u2019s\nhearing titled, \u201cTurbulence Ahead: Consequences of Delaying a Long-term FAA\nBill.\u201d Read the full statement to the subcommittee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statement highlights the many ways the general aviation\nindustry is vital to the U.S., including its role in providing jobs, connecting\ncommunities, helping during times of natural disasters and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe general aviation industry contributes an estimated $247\nbillion in economic output and supports 1.2 million jobs in the United States\nwhile supporting critical services and providing an essential lifeline to\nthousands of communities nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The organizations\u2019 statement went on to commend the House\nfor passage of its FAA reauthorization bill, the Securing Growth and Robust\nLeadership in American Aviation Act, H.R. 3935. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis bill enables the FAA to move forward on areas of\nsignificant importance to general aviation including workforce development,\nregulatory process improvement, airspace modernization, and the development and\nenabling of new technologies,\u201d according to the statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs we have seen in the past, short-term extensions\nchallenge the certainty that industry and the FAA depend on to enable long-term\nplanning and investment in many critical areas required to ensure the safety of\nthe NAS and America\u2019s global leadership in aviation,\u201d the groups added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to the National Association of State Aviation\nOfficials (NASAO), the statement was signed by the Aircraft Owners and Pilots\nAssociation (AOPA), the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), Helicopter\nAssociation International (HAI), the National Air Transportation Association\n(NATA), and the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
