{"id":27209,"date":"2023-11-20T14:32:33","date_gmt":"2023-11-20T14:32:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=27209"},"modified":"2023-11-20T14:32:35","modified_gmt":"2023-11-20T14:32:35","slug":"faa-takes-actions-to-address-independent-safety-review-teams-recommendations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/national-news\/faa-takes-actions-to-address-independent-safety-review-teams-recommendations\/%20","title":{"rendered":"FAA Takes Actions to Address Independent Safety Review Team\u2019s Recommendations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Federal Aviation Administration is taking immediate\naction to enhance air traffic controller training and safety reporting\nfollowing the release of the National Airspace System Safety Review Team\nreport. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAviation is safe because we are continuously looking for\nways to improve,\u201d said Administrator Mike Whitaker. \u201cThe independent safety\nreview team made some excellent recommendations, and we are adopting some of\nthem immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The independent safety review team completed a thorough\nassessment and presented its recommendations this week on enhancing safety and\nreliability in the nation\u2019s air traffic system. The team examined the FAA\u2019s\ninternal safety processes, staffing levels and practices, as well as needs for\nfacilities and equipment and how the agency\u2019s air traffic budget is funded. The\nFAA commissioned the panel of aviation experts following the agency\u2019s Safety\nSummit in March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FAA is taking immediate action on the following items:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Provide additional support to colleges and\nuniversities in the Air Traffic-Collegiate Training Initiative (AT-CTI)\nProgram. The FAA will work with AT-CTI programs to ensure that graduates from\nthese programs have the necessary skills to begin on-the-job training at a\nfacility. These graduates still must pass the Air Traffic Skills Assessment\n(ATSA) exam and meet medical and security requirements. Previously, these\ngraduates were required to attend the FAA Air Traffic Controller Academy prior\nto being assigned to a facility.<\/li><li>Announced a year-round hiring track for\nexperienced controllers from the military and private industry.<\/li><li>Keep filling every seat at the FAA Academy and\nincrease our classroom capacity beyond current limits.<\/li><li>Expand the use of advanced training across the\ncountry. The agency has new facilities in Chicago and San Diego and will be\nadding them in Nashua and Phoenix in the spring. <\/li><li>Finish deploying tower simulator systems in 95\nfacilities by December 2025.
