This project represents phase one\nof what will ultimately become the airport\u2019s cargo ramp, totaling 188,000\nsquare feet of ramp space. The entire project is being constructed to\naccommodate Boeing-737 or larger military aircraft, such as the C-130.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPryor Field handles a tremendous amount of on-demand\nfreight for partners in the North Alabama area as well as several from\nTennessee,\u201d Airport Director Adam Fox explained. \u201cOur northwest development\nwill not only allow us to facilitate our freight operations, but also provide\nspace for businesses to build facilities to accommodate their needs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently the Airport Authority has received four Letters of\nIntent (LOIs) from companies looking to build on the northwest side of the\nairport. The Airport Authority recently approved plans to construct a\n12,000-square-foot hangar facility with classroom space north of the airport\u2019s\nterminal building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>North Alabama is bolstering a lot of growth, with Limestone\nCounty, where Pryor Field resides just outside Huntsville, serving as a\ncatalyst for the aviation industry. \u201cWe recently completed an Airport Master\nPlan with Goodwyn Mills Cawood, our aviation planning and engineering partners,\nand are proud to now begin checking projects off the list,\u201d said Fox.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"672\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Pryor-Field-Regional-Airport-DCU-North-Apron_Goodwyn-Mills-Cawood-1024x672.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27006\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Pryor-Field-Regional-Airport-DCU-North-Apron_Goodwyn-Mills-Cawood-1024x672.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Pryor-Field-Regional-Airport-DCU-North-Apron_Goodwyn-Mills-Cawood-300x197.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Pryor-Field-Regional-Airport-DCU-North-Apron_Goodwyn-Mills-Cawood.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The airport taxiway and access road project, currently\nunderway, was awarded to Wiregrass Construction, with an estimated project cost\nof $2.6 million. The Airport Authority received $1,315,555 in grant funding\nfrom the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), $73,086 in grant funding from\nALDOT Aeronautics, and a $1,239,107.86 bank bond to match the grants from the\nAuthority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAirports have one chance to build the airport for the\nfuture, and we feel like the northwest development is the only location for\nnumerous companies and individuals we are in conversations with. Time was of\nthe essence to build the infrastructure needed to capture these expansion\nopportunities at Pryor Field. I\u2019m glad to have the support of the Board to do\nwhat was needed to begin this project and position the airport for future\nsuccess,\u201d said Fox. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pryor Field Airport Authority has five board members\nthat are appointed by Limestone County, Morgan County, the City of Decatur and\nthe City of Athens. Faith Hooper is the Airport Authority\u2019s first female chair,\na position voted on by her fellow board members during October\u2019s meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"598\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Pryor-Field-Regional-Airport-DCU-North-Development_Goodwyn-Mills-Cawood.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27007\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Pryor-Field-Regional-Airport-DCU-North-Development_Goodwyn-Mills-Cawood.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Pryor-Field-Regional-Airport-DCU-North-Development_Goodwyn-Mills-Cawood-300x179.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPryor Field is a great airport that has a tremendous amount\nof growth and economic development opportunities for the state of Alabama,\u201d\nHooper said. \u201cI am eager to work alongside my fellow board members to provide\nsupport to Adam and his team and work to continue to create jobs at Pryor Field\nfor the communities we serve.\u201d\n\nEarlier this year, the Pryor Field Airport\nAuthority Board approved a 25-year lease with a 10-year option with Acquisition\nIntegration (AI) for a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) operation at the\nairport. Based in Huntsville, Ala., Acquisition Integration is a distribution,\nlogistics and services company serving the commercial and military aerospace\nand vehicles industries. AI has developed a four-phase plan to build 170,000\nsquare feet of hangar and office space at Pryor Field, investing nearly $30 million\nand creating approximately 250 jobs.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pryor Field Regional Airport (DCU) is growing yet again, with a new taxiway and access road underway on the northwest side of the airport.
