The award is the highest honor given to an active airport\nCEO\/Director by ACI-NA, the trade association representing commercial service\nairports in the United States and Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/MAC-and-ACI-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26882\" width=\"333\" height=\"276\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/MAC-and-ACI-edit.jpg 781w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/MAC-and-ACI-edit-300x249.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 333px) 100vw, 333px\" \/><figcaption><em>ACI-NA President and CEO Kevin M. Burke (L) presented MAC Executive Director and CEO Brian Ryks with the ACI-NA Excellence in Visionary Leadership Award on Oct. 2, 2023. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Ryks has led the MAC\u2019s seven-airport system in Minnesota\nsince 2016, which includes Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) and\nsix general aviation airports in the Twin Cities. MSP has received the Best\nAirport in North America Award through the Airports Council International (ACI)\nglobal Airport Service Quality (ASQ) program for six out of the past seven\nyears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m honored to receive this incredible recognition on\nbehalf of the Metropolitan Airports Commission and the talented people on my\nteam in Minnesota,\u201d said Ryks. \u201cI\u2019m thankful for the many stakeholders and\nemployees I\u2019ve served who have supported a commitment to excellence,\ninnovation, and customer service that builds community and global connections,\ndrives economic growth, and fosters greater understanding of an airport\u2019s\npurpose within the community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/airportscouncil.org\/press_release\/airports-council-presents-macs-brian-ryks-with-2023-excellence-in-visionary-leadership-award\/\">Excellence in Visionary Leadership Award<\/a> was announced on Oct. 3 during the 2023 ACI-NA Annual Conference and Exhibition in Long Beach, CA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOver the course of his decades-long career in the airport\nindustry, Brian Ryks has continually established himself as a dynamic and\nrespected leader,\u201d said ACI-NA President and CEO Kevin M. Burke.&nbsp; \u201cBecause of Brian\u2019s diligent efforts, the\nMetropolitan Airports Commission\u2019s system of airports have grown into one of the\nmost efficient and best rated airport organizations in North America. We are\nthrilled to recognize his many contributions to the MSP region and the greater\nairport industry with our 2023 Excellence in Visionary Leadership Award.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBrian has succeeded in every stop along his career. We\u2019re\nfortunate for his collaborative leadership, acute business sense, community\nengagement, and compassion for the strong and diverse workforce that supports\nthe daily operations of our airports in the region,\u201d said MAC Chair Rick King.\n\u201cHe\u2019s assembled and led a rock-steady team that guided the organization through\nthe many challenges of the pandemic while exceeding in the highest levels of\nservice through the ongoing recovery.\u201d&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The award honors Ryks\u2019 37 years in the airport industry,\nwhere he has served at every level\u2014a career that began at the MAC in 1986 as a\nnoise technician. In his two decades in airport management, he was part of team\nthat developed Denver\u2019s new airport. He went on to manage airports in Aberdeen,\nSD; St. Cloud, MN; Duluth, MN; Grand Rapids, MI; and then back to Minneapolis,\nMN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ryks\u2019 leadership and vision have been integral for\nconceptualizing programs such as MAC\u2019s 2023-2027 Enterprise Strategic Plan. This\nplan sets the MAC\u2019s future in motion\u2014incorporating goals that recognize\npandemic-led changes in the industry while ensuring continued operational\nefficiency and growth. Ryks has led transformations in sustainability and\nconsumer-focus, utilizing the insights of experts and demographic data that\nallow for holistic improvements to the airport experience.
