Photos&nbsp;by&nbsp;the&nbsp;<\/em>2<em>023 MDOT Photography Unit.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At their Sept. 13 meeting held in Muskegon in conjunction\nwith the Michigan Association of Airport Executives (MAAE) fall conference, the\nMichigan Aeronautics Commission (MAC) and Michigan Department of Transportation\n(MDOT) announced the award winners for achievements in promoting and improving\naviation. These awards are presented to airports, aviators, professionals,\nconsultants, and others. Here is a list of the 2023 award winners: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>General Aviation Airport of the Year Award: The Saginaw\nCounty H.W. Browne Airport was selected for its attentive care and commitment\nto airport management and operations, as well as the customer care and service\nthe airport provides to the community. The airport received their award at the\nMarch MAC meeting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/23-Award-Tami-B-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26726\" width=\"215\" height=\"210\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/23-Award-Tami-B-edit.jpg 800w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/23-Award-Tami-B-edit-300x293.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/23-Award-Tami-B-edit-60x60.jpg 60w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 215px) 100vw, 215px\" \/><figcaption><em> Tami Beseau (left) of the Chippewa County International Airport receives the Commercial Airport of the Year Award from Mike Trout. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Commercial Service Airport of the Year Award: The Chippewa\nCounty International Airport in Kincheloe was selected for proactively pursuing\nairport grant funding and opportunities that benefit the airport, region, and\ncommunity. The airport\u2019s hard work in securing supplemental discretionary funds\nfrom the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) allowed work on a beautiful new,\nmulti-million-dollar terminal, which opened in fall 2022. The entire region has\nbenefitted economically and gained a real asset that will solidify partnerships\nin aviation and improve access to the rest of the world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aviation Professional of the Year Award: Kelly Jost, P.E.,\nGreat Lakes Service Group manager \u2013 Aviation of C&amp;S Companies in Livonia,\nwas selected for outstanding work in supporting aviation education,\nrecruitment, and retention in Michigan. Jost\u2019s mission to promote aeronautic\ncareers for women and underserved populations is commendable and will leave a\nlasting impact on airport communities well into the future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aviator of the Year Award: Virgil Williams, airport manager\nat the Plainwell Municipal Airport in Plainwell, was selected for outstanding\nservice to Michigan\u2019s aviation community. Throughout his career, Williams\nactively promoted safety and educational opportunities at the airport. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/23-Award-Sarah-Pagano-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26727\" width=\"233\" height=\"210\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/23-Award-Sarah-Pagano-edit.jpg 700w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/23-Award-Sarah-Pagano-edit-300x270.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 233px) 100vw, 233px\" \/><figcaption><em>Sarah Pagano (left) of the Jack Barstow Midland Airport and Steve Smigelski, MAAE President. Pagano received the Aviation Community Involvement Award and MAAE Airport Manager of the Year. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Aviation Community Involvement Award: Sarah Pagano, airport\nmanager at the Jack Barstow Airport in Midland, was selected for outstanding\nwork in bringing together the airport and the Midland community. Pagano\u2019s\nefforts in providing fun and educational experiences at the airport created an\ninterest in aviation for all members of the community, which will leave\npositive impacts well into the future. Pagano received her award at the March\nMAC meeting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/23-Award-Chris-C-edit.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26728\" width=\"128\" height=\"218\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/23-Award-Chris-C-edit.jpg 572w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/23-Award-Chris-C-edit-176x300.jpg 176w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 128px) 100vw, 128px\" \/><figcaption><em>Chris Cieciek of LimnoTech accepts Consultant of the Year Award. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Consultant of the Year Award: LimnoTech in Ann Arbor, was\nselected for outstanding per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) work for\nMichigan\u2019s aviation community. LimnoTech has provided high quality\nenvironmental analysis and is being recognized for service in advocating to\nhave a better understanding of PFAS issues at airports nationally. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCongratulations to this year\u2019s awards winners and thank you\nfor your contributions to improving Michigan aviation,\u201d said Mike Trout, MAC\ndirector and MDOT Office of Aeronautics administrator. \u201cTheir outstanding work\nhas not gone unnoticed to the MAC, MDOT, and the aviation community.\u201d&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The MAC and MDOT have recognized airports, individuals, and\norganizations whose innovative contributions have led to significant\nimprovements to facilities, operations, or public relations that support\naviation in Michigan.
