UPS Flight Forward with its Matternet M2 can conduct small package delivery and uAvionix with its Rapace can use the Vantis Network to test its detect and avoid technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/UPS-Flight-Forward.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26595\" width=\"305\" height=\"157\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/UPS-Flight-Forward.jpg 600w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/UPS-Flight-Forward-300x155.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 305px) 100vw, 305px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>On August 24 the agency authorized Phoenix Air Unmanned to\noperate SwissDrones SVO 50 V2 drones beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) for\naerial work, aerial photography, survey and powerline and pipeline patrol and\ninspection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FAA issued the approvals after asking for public input\non four BVLOS requests. The agency is reviewing one additional request. Data\ncollected from these operations will inform the FAA\u2019s ongoing policy and\nrulemaking activities. Learn more here and here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FAA is focused on developing standard rules to make\nBVLOS operations routine, scalable and economically viable. The agency\nchartered the Beyond Visual Line of Sight Aviation Rulemaking Committee on June\n9, 2021 to provide safety recommendations to the FAA. We are reviewing their\nfinal report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FAA\u2019s long-term goal is to safely integrate drones into\nthe National Airspace System rather than set aside separate airspace\nexclusively for drones. This approach is consistent with the FAA Modernization\nand Reform Act of 2012 and the FAA Extension, Safety, and Security Act of 2016.\nThe 2016 Act directed the FAA, in conjunction with NASA, to continue developing\na plan for Unmanned Aircraft System Traffic Management (UTM), which will assist\nin integration efforts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The FAA authorized two more companies to operate drones beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS).
