Earlier in August, $357,340 in Leading Idaho funds created\nrunway widening improvements at the Nezperce Airport in north-central Idaho.\nThe runway was widened from 30 feet to 50 feet, addressing a width deficiency\nidentified in the 2003 planning study, while also providing a strong, smooth\npavement surface that should last 20 years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Three agricultural crop spraying businesses currently\noperate out of Nezperce Airport and this project will provide a sound runway\nfor them to continue, while also providing future aviation growth\nopportunities. The runway widening and overlay will improve safety for the\nflying public operating out of the facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGovernor Little\u2019s Leading Idaho initiative has provided the\nDivision of Aeronautics the opportunity to provide funding for worthy aviation\nprojects that may have never been accomplished due to funding shortfalls,\u201d\nDivision of Aeronautics\u2019 Jennifer Schildgen said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis project is a great example of how the aviation\ncommunity is working together to provide the safest aviation system possible.\nThe city of Nezperce has waited 17 years for this project and it is a great\nhonor to have been a part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of Governor Little\u2019s \u201cLeading Idaho\u201d initiative, the\n2021 Idaho Legislature dedicated $126 million of one-time funds from Idaho\u2019s\nbudget surplus to transportation projects statewide. The funds were split 60\/40\nbetween ITD and local jurisdictions. Construction on this project is paid for\nwith ITD\u2019s portion of the funds that will accelerate projects to replace\nbridges, restore pavements, and improve mobility in communities across Idaho.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
