{"id":26259,"date":"2023-07-30T15:01:47","date_gmt":"2023-07-30T15:01:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=26259"},"modified":"2023-07-30T15:01:49","modified_gmt":"2023-07-30T15:01:49","slug":"aopa-plans-national-celebration-of-ga-flyover-of-washington-d-c","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/state-news\/district-of-columbia\/aopa-plans-national-celebration-of-ga-flyover-of-washington-d-c\/%20","title":{"rendered":"AOPA Plans National Celebration of GA Flyover of Washington D.C."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A wide array of aircraft representing virtually every\nchapter of general aviation\u2019s storied history will be on full display over the\nNational Mall during a spectacular May 2024 commemoration of the numerous\ncontributions the GA industry has provided to our nation since 1939. The\nplanned celebration, coinciding with the Aircraft Owners and Pilots\nAssociation\u2019s 85th anniversary, was announced by AOPA at EAA AirVenture in\nOshkosh. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The flyover will be broadcast live on YouTube with\ncommentary from longtime AOPA Live This Week host Tom Haines and other special\nguests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This special event will take place over one of Washington,\nD.C.\u2019s most restricted flight zones, P-56, something that\u2019s never been done\nwith GA aircraft. Spectators on the ground and online will watch the aircraft\nfly above the Lincoln Memorial, down Independence Avenue, and past the\nWashington Monument. The flyover is being closely coordinated with 15\ninteragency partners, including the FAA, the Transportation Security\nAdministration, the Secret Service, and the Capitol Police, and has the support\nof Congress. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The flyover will consist of over 20 different \u201cchapters\u201d\ntelling the story of GA in America starting in the Golden Age with AOPA\nPresident Mark Baker\u2019s Beechcraft 17 Staggerwing. Also included will be\naircraft representing GA during and after World War II, the GA trainer era,\nvertical flight, backcountry flying, seaplanes, corporate and business\naviation, technically advanced aircraft, experimental homebuilts, airshow\nperformers, and other examples of GA aircraft that support public service\nmissions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to be a special time for AOPA in May of 2024,\u201d\nBaker said at AirVenture. \u201cWhat a sight it will be to see the history of\ngeneral aviation flying over the National Mall as GA has given this nation so\nmuch over the past many decades.
