As part of nearly $268 million\nin grants, about $92 million will go to 21 airports for solar panels, electric\nbuses, charging stations and electrification studies; investments that support\ngood-paying jobs and their local communities. Also, as a part of this\nsustainability effort, the agency is providing funding to help general aviation\nairports safely transition to unleaded fuel for piston-engine aircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe need to help airports transition their operations as\nquickly as possible to renewable power. Our investment keeps us on track for\nthe net-zero goal,\u201d said Shannetta R. Griffin, P.E., Associate Administrator\nfor Airports. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Solar Power<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of today\u2019s funding $46.8 million will go to key\nsustainability projects, including energy saving solar power equipment and\ninfrastructure:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>$22.58 million to Indianapolis International\nAirport in Indiana to construct energy efficient infrastructure and install\nsolar panels.<\/li><li>$20 million to Phoenix Sky Harbor International\nAirport in Arizona to design and construct solar parking structures.<\/li><li>$3 million to El Paso International Airport in\nTexas to install solar panels.<\/li><li>$600,000 to Southeast Iowa Regional Airport in\nBurlington to install solar panels.<\/li><li>$333,450 to La Porte Municipal Airport in\nIndiana to install solar panels.<\/li><li>$150,000 to Centerville Municipal Airport in\nIowa to install solar panels.<\/li><li>$150,000 Decorah Municipal Airport in Iowa to\ninstall solar panels.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Electrification<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An additional $44.5 million has been awarded to airports to\nplan for and purchase electric vehicles and electric transportation\ninfrastructure:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>$16 million to Portland International Airport in\nOregon to construct zero emissions vehicle infrastructure.<\/li><li>$4.8 million to Harry Reid International Airport\nin Las Vegas to purchase electric buses and charging stations.<\/li><li>$3.4 million to Raleigh-Durham International\nAirport in North Carolina to purchase zero emissions vehicles and charging\nstations.<\/li><li>$3.2 million to Sacramento International Airport\nin California to purchase electric buses.<\/li><li>$3.1 million to Salt Lake City International\nAirport in Utah to purchase electric buses and charging stations.<\/li><li>$5.1 million to San Francisco International\nAirport in California to purchase electric buses and charging stations.<\/li><li>$3 million to Pittsburgh International Airport\nin Pennsylvania to purchase zero emissions vehicles and associated\ninfrastructure.<\/li><li>$2 million to McGhee Tyson Airport in Tennessee\nto purchase zero emissions vehicles and charging stations.<\/li><li>$1.5 million to Kansas City International\nAirport in Missouri to purchase electric buses.<\/li><li>$1.1 million to San Diego International Airport\nin California to construct electric vehicle charging infrastructure.<\/li><li>$300,000 to Gerald R. Ford International Airport\nin Grand Rapids, Michigan to purchase zero emissions vehicles and charging\nstations.<\/li><li>$590,000 to Bill and Hillary Clinton Airport in\nLittle Rock to purchase electric buses with chargers.<\/li><li>$154,000 to Bert Mooney Airport in Butte,\nMontana to purchase electric vehicles with chargers.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Unleaded Fuel<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To safely eliminate leaded aviation fuels in piston-engine\naircraft by the end of 2030, Prescott Regional Airport in Arizona will receive\n$243,000 to develop a plan to safely transition to unleaded fuel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>View the complete list of grants being announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/airports\/aip\/aip_supplemental_appropriation\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In its Aviation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/sustainability\/aviation-climate-action-plan\">Climate Action Plan<\/a>, the United States set a goal to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in the aviation sector by 2050. To help to achieve this goal, the FAA has awarded:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>$100 million to research and scale fuel-saving technologies and noise reductions;<\/li><li>$327 million to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canarymedia.com\/articles\/electric-vehicles\/electric-buses-are-ready-for-takeoff-at-u-s-airports\">electrify airport<\/a> gate equipment and vehicles; and<\/li><li>$35 million for universities to help build sustainable aviation fuel supply chains and develop new software capability to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/newsroom\/new-software-capability-gets-planes-rolling-directly-runway-reducing-fuel-burn-taxi-time\">reduce fuel burn<\/a> and taxi time.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can find more information about the FAA and its environmental efforts at its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/sustainability\">Sustainability page<\/a> and its list of accomplishments for 2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/sustainability\/environmental-accomplishments-2022\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Airports across the country are more sustainable thanks to funding from the Federal Aviation Administration.
