Stephanie has served as WAI\u2019s Chief Growth Officer since\n2021, where she led the strategic direction and financial growth of the\norganization. She most recently assumed management of the organization\u2019s\nsuccessful scholarship program, including its new international university\nscholarships, and she launched Harvard University\/WAI Emerging Leaders\nprofessional education program designed to give women the leadership skills\nneeded to assume executive positions within their organizations and the\naviation\/aerospace industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Captain Deborah Hecker, chair of the WAI Board of Directors,\nexpressed confidence in Stephanie\u2019s ability to lead the organization.\n\u201cStephanie\u2019s proven leadership coupled with her understanding of the industry\nand nonprofit management make her an excellent choice as interim CEO. We are\nconfident in her ability to drive WAI\u2019s mission forward as well as create new\nopportunities for women in aviation and aerospace. Stephanie comes to the position with more than two decades\nof leadership experience in nonprofits and the aviation industry. As vice\npresident of the AOPA Foundation, she designed and launched the popular AOPA\nHigh School Aviation Initiative, now a nationwide program that introduces\nteachers and students to aviation. Stephanie also served as executive director\nin the philanthropy and alumni engagement division at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical\nUniversity, where she was a member of the university\u2019s women\u2019s initiative\ncommittee. Earlier in her career, Stephanie held leadership positions at the\nAmerican Red Cross National Headquarters in Washington, D.C., and at the\nhumanitarian aviation organization, AirServ International. Stephanie is a\nprivate pilot and holds professional certifications in nonprofit management,\nfundraising, and public relations. She and her family live in the Washington,\nD.C. Metro area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The appointment of Stephanie follows the departure of former\nCEO Allison McKay, who is pursuing new opportunities aligned with her personal\nand professional goals. Allison was hired in 2020 upon the retirement of\nlong-time CEO and founder Dr. Peggy Chabrian. Most notably, Allison was\ninstrumental in guiding the organization through the pandemic\u2019s upheaval of the\naviation and aerospace industry. The\nboard and staff of WAI expressed appreciation for Allison\u2019s significant\ncontributions during her tenure and for her dedication and commitment to WAI\u2019s\nmission.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
