{"id":26029,"date":"2023-07-01T00:47:46","date_gmt":"2023-07-01T00:47:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=26029"},"modified":"2023-07-01T00:47:48","modified_gmt":"2023-07-01T00:47:48","slug":"industry-coalition-defends-air-service-to-small-communities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/national-news\/industry-coalition-defends-air-service-to-small-communities\/%20","title":{"rendered":"Industry Coalition Defends Air Service to Small Communities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A coalition of industry groups, including the National\nBusiness Aviation Association (NBAA), joined today in cautioning leaders in the\nWhite House, Congress, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal\nAviation Administration (FAA) about inaccurate characterizations of Part 135\nair carriers that conduct public charter flights under DOT Part 380 regulations\nand provide vital air service to small communities in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a June 30 letter, the coalition noted a DOT docket for a\npending financial fitness application, &#8220;has been misused by economic\ncompetitors that, with no evidence of safety and security concerns, seek to\nprevent Part 135 operators from conducting public charter flights.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;[These] unsubstantiated claims do a disservice to this\nwell-established regulatory framework and the safe, secure transportation\nservices its operators provide to the traveling public,&#8221; read the letter\nsent to Members of Congress and Biden Administration officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more than 45 years, DOT\u2019s Part 380 economic regulations have governed a broad range of air service options operations under both Part 121 and Part 135, without controversy. <a href=\"https:\/\/nbaa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/aircraft-operations\/part-135\/DOT-FAA-135-380-Stakeholder-Letter-6-30-23.pdf\">Review a sample of the coalition letter.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The public charter industry provides much needed\nservice to smaller underserved communities,&#8221; the coalition said.\n&#8220;This service would be severely disrupted and entire communities deprived\nof air service if a wholesale revision of the regulations were made by\nCongress, as some opponents of the Part 135\/Part 380 business model urge.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;For example, the evolution of commercial air\ntransportation &#8211; particularly with respect to vertical take-off and landing\naircraft, hybrid and all-electric flight, and advanced air mobility operations\n&#8211; depends on Part 135 for commercial success,&#8221; the letter stated.\n&#8220;Swift regulatory change, without research, data or stakeholder input\ncould negatively impact promising new technologies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We respectfully ask Congress to allow DOT to\nindependently resolve the application and reject any legislative attempts to\ninterfere,&#8221; the letter concluded. &#8220;Doing so will protect service to\nsmall communities and promising new technologies.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to NBAA, other signatories included the Airline\nPassenger Experience Association (APEX);
