Chad Makovsky received the 2023\nAirport Executive of the Year Award and Tammy Martelle received the President\u2019s\nAward. Each honoree has made lasting positive impacts on airports in Arizona,\nand AzAA recognizes their outstanding contributions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Chad-Makovsky-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25951\" width=\"168\" height=\"217\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Chad-Makovsky-1.jpg 252w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Chad-Makovsky-1-232x300.jpg 232w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 168px) 100vw, 168px\" \/><figcaption><em>Chad Makovsky<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Chad R. Makovsky, C.M., who currently serves as Director of\nAviation Services at the City of Phoenix Aviation Department, was awarded Airport\nExecutive of the Year. Makovsky was named City of Phoenix Director of Aviation\nServices in March 2021. He provides executive leadership and strategic\ndirection for the Phoenix system of airports, including Phoenix Sky Harbor\nInternational Airport (PHX), Phoenix Deer Valley Airport (DVT), and Phoenix\nGoodyear Airport (GYR). In this capacity, Makovsky leads one of America\u2019s\nlargest airports, with more than 20 airlines providing nonstop service to more\nthan 140 destinations across North America and Europe. Additionally, Makovsky\nis responsible for implementing a $6 billion capital improvement program and is\ncommitted to sustainability, setting a bold sustainability vision for the\nairport system to achieve net zero emissions nearly a decade ahead of the United\nNations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) goal. Makovsky returned\nto Phoenix after serving as the Executive Vice President of Operations at\nDallas\/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). There, he led the airport\u2019s\nDepartment of Public Safety, Environmental Affairs, Sustainability, Airport\nOperations, and Integrated Operations functions. Prior to DFW Airport, Makovsky\nheld a variety of roles with the City of Phoenix Aviation Department, Burbank\nAirport, John F. Kennedy International Airport, and America West Airlines\nduring his 32-year professional career. Makovsky is a Certified Member with the\nAmerican Association of Airport Executives where he serves on their\nInternational Board (IAAE) and national Policy Review Council. He is also actively\nengaged with Airports Council International and serves on several Boards\nincluding the Arizona Lodging and Tourism Association, the Arizona Governor\u2019s\nTourism Advisory Council, the Arizona Humane Society Board, and the Phoenix\nAviation Advisory Board. He holds a Private Pilot\u2019s License, a Bachelor of\nScience in Aviation Operations from St. Cloud State University, and a Master of\nBusiness Administration from Arizona State University\u2019s W.P. Carey School of\nBusiness. He is also an avid participant in AzAA and very well respected in the\nlocal, state, and federal aviation community. His dedication to AzAA and other\nindustry organizations, broad depth and knowledge and understanding of aviation\nissues, proven contributions to the industry, and his strong passion for\naviation and mentoring of others make him an ideal recipient of the Executive\nof the Year award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"132\" height=\"190\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Tammy-Martelle.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25952\"\/><figcaption><em>Tammy Martelle<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Tammy Martelle, Grant Administrator at Kimley-Horn, was\nawarded the President\u2019s Award. In her current role at Kimley-Horn, Martelle\nassists airport clients with grant administration, which includes preparing\nADOT and FAA grant applications, reimbursement requests, and assisting with\nairport capital improvement program (ACIP) documentation. Prior to joining\nKimley-Horn, Martelle worked with the ADOT Multimodal Division, Aeronautics\nGroup as an airport grants manager, where she successfully managed over 25\nairports with over 450 grants for airport projects worth approximately $500\nmillion within Arizona. In total, she has over 33 years of experience in government\nwork, including the 11 years spent at ADOT. She has also been a loyal and\nactive member of AzAA for many years. She diligently serves on the Spring and\nFall conference committees year after year, where she organizes and facilitates\ndoor prizes and give aways. In his speech presenting the award to Martelle,\nAzAA President Matt Smith, C.M. (now immediate past president) stated, \u201cWithout\nher efforts, the conferences wouldn\u2019t be nearly as fun. She\u2019s one of my\nfavorite people ever.\u201d He went on to say, \u201cTammy has selflessly served Arizona\nairports for over 20 years, and I could think of no one more deserving of the\nPresident\u2019s Award than her to formally recognize her dedication and efforts\nover the years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The AzAA Board of Directors congratulated both Makovsky and Martelle as recipients of this year\u2019s Excellence Awards, and for their dedicated service to AzAA and aviation in the state of Arizona.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Arizona Airports Association (AzAA) awarded the Airport Executive of the Year and announced the President\u2019s Award at its annual spring conference held recently in Flagstaff, AZ.
