Nolen has been a\nstrong advocate for the eVTOL aircraft industry and its role in changing the\nway the world moves. In his new position, Nolen will play a leadership role to\nhelp Archer more effectively collaborate with industry stakeholders and help\nensure its safe entry into service as it prepares for planned commercialization\nin 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m honored to join Archer Aviation, a true visionary at\nthe forefront of revolutionizing urban air mobility,\u201d said Nolen. \u201cThe\ncommercialization of eVTOL aircraft is no longer a question of \u2018if,\u2019 but rather\n\u2018when\u2019 and after careful consideration and assessing the competitive landscape,\nI joined Archer because I believe its approach to designing for certification\nand only developing the key enabling technologies necessary for eVTOL aircraft\nis the right recipe for success.&nbsp; I\u2019m\nexcited to bring my expertise as a former FAA administrator to Archer and\nbelieve its dedication to safety, innovation, and commercialization aligns\nperfectly with my own values and aspirations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While serving as the acting administrator at the FAA from\nApril 2022 to June 2023, Nolen led certification reform and new safety\nmanagement systems for airports. Prior to that, he was the associate\nadministrator of aviation safety for the FAA, which covers more than one\nmillion registered aircraft, more than one million active pilots, thousands of\napproved manufacturers, and over 50,000 flights every day. He has more than 33\nyears of experience in corporate safety, regulatory affairs and flight\noperations. Nolen started his career as a pilot for American Airlines, followed\nby numerous safety leadership positions at WestJet Airlines, Qantas Airways,\nAirlines for America and American Airlines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nolen served tours of duty in the U.S. Army as an airplane\nand helicopter pilot and safety officer.&nbsp;\nHe holds a Bachelor of Science in Professional Aeronautics from\nEmbry-Riddle Aeronautical University, as well as specialized aviation safety\nmanagement certificates from the University of Southern California, United\nStates Army Safety Center, and the United States Navy Postgraduate School.
