{"id":25659,"date":"2023-05-24T01:49:02","date_gmt":"2023-05-24T01:49:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=25659"},"modified":"2023-05-24T01:49:03","modified_gmt":"2023-05-24T01:49:03","slug":"nbaa-welcomes-passage-of-notam-improvement-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/national-news\/nbaa-welcomes-passage-of-notam-improvement-act\/%20","title":{"rendered":"NBAA Welcomes Passage of NOTAM Improvement Act"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) applauds\ncongressional passage of the NOTAM Improvement Act of 2023, which directs the\nFederal Aviation Administration (FAA) to improve the Notice to Air Missions\n(NOTAMs) system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bill now heads to President Biden, who is expected to\nsign it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An NBAA-backed amendment in the bill calls for a deadline of\nSept. 30, 2024, for the FAA to implement a new Federal NOTAM System (FNS), with\nan accompanying backup system to mitigate the impact of any primary system\noutages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis vital legislation will ensure the NOTAM system\noperates with the most up-to-date technology available to make it more\nresilient and create a safer National Airspace System (NAS) for all operators,\u201d\nsaid NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe thank all those who supported this bill, including House\nsponsors Rep. Pete Stauber (R-8-MN) and Rep. Mark DeSaulnier (D-10-CA), as well\nas Senate sponsor Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and co-sponsors Sens. Jerry Moran\n(R-KS) and Shelley Moore Caputo (R-WV),\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NOTAMs provide real-time information about airports and\nairspace to help ensure a flight is conducted safely. However, several flaws in\nthe current system were revealed in January, when the FAA issued a nationwide\nground stop in the NAS following a widespread system outage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also included in the final bill is an association-supported\namendment that acknowledges the work by a longstanding industry coalition to\noverhaul NOTAMs and prioritize safety-focused information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This group \u2013 led by NBAA Senior Director of Air Traffic\nServices and Infrastructure Heidi Williams, and composed of representatives\nfrom general aviation, commercial airline, ATC and regulatory stakeholders \u2013\nsubmitted its recommendations to the FAA in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FAA subsequently began to modernize the NOTAM process,\nincluding the implementation of the coalition\u2019s recommendation of an\nAeronautical Information Systems Office within the FAA Air Traffic Organization\nas a central location for operators to address questions about aeronautical\ninformation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) applauds congressional passage of the NOTAM Improvement Act of 2023, which directs the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to improve the Notice to Air Missions (NOTAMs) system.
