Department of Transportation is moving transportation innovation forward with the launch of its newest initiative, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncdot.gov\/divisions\/aviation\/advance-mobility\/Pages\/default.aspx\">Advance Mobility NC<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/NC-Mobility.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25620\" width=\"292\" height=\"221\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NC-Mobility.jpg 400w, https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/NC-Mobility-300x227.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 292px) 100vw, 292px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Advance Mobility NC leverages the trailblazing work of the\ndepartment\u2019s aviation, integrated mobility and rail divisions to create a\nshared, autonomous, and connected multimodal transportation system that\nimproves access and mobility of people and freight. NCDOT plans to invest in\nnew technologies to improve mobility, including autonomous transit vehicles,\nadvanced air mobility, on-demand transportation services, mobility hubs,\nconnected streets and freight transfer hubs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAt NCDOT, we are thinking ahead and always looking for opportunities\nto collaborate with other thought leaders, government entities and businesses\nto enhance our services and help us bring our vision for safer and more\nconvenient transportation to fruition,\u201d said Multimodal Transportation\nSecretary Julie White. \u201cAdvance Mobility NC is our strategic, shared vision for\nwhat mobility will be.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some examples of North Carolina\u2019s dedication to turn this\nvision into a reality include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>NCDOT\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncdot.gov\/divisions\/aviation\/uas\/Pages\/default.aspx\">Unmanned Aircraft Systems Program<\/a> launched the first demonstration flight of an uncrewed electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL) in the U.S. in 2020.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/li><li>NCDOT also deployed its first autonomous transit shuttles with the launch of its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncdot.gov\/divisions\/integrated-mobility\/innovation\/cassi\/Pages\/default.aspx\">Connected Autonomous Shuttle Supporting Innovation <\/a>(CASSI) program in 2020 and partnered with the National Park Service in 2021 to deploy the first autonomous shuttle service in the country at the Wright Brothers National Memorial.<\/li><li>NCDOT and the City of Wilson deployed one of the first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wilsonnc.org\/residents\/all-departments\/public-works\/wilson-transit-ride-wilson-industrial-air-center\/ride\">rural on-demand microtransit services<\/a> in the country in 2020 and recently won a USDOT grant to deploy on-demand microtransit in eleven rural North Carolina communities.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The department is in the process of developing a three-year\nstrategic plan and expects the plan to be completed and adopted by 2024. This plan\nwill include investing in existing infrastructure, piloting new technologies,\ndeploying new mobility services, partnering with industry and local governments\nand supporting workforce development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAdvance Mobility NC is the next step in the progression of\ntransportation, applying modern technology to make all of these multimodal\nservices more accessible and convenient for everyone,\u201d said N.C.
