In Japan, the introduction of autonomous\nair travel is developing, and we strongly feel that this partnership with Wisk\nis the first step towards the development of the next generation of safe air\nmobility in Japan,\u201d says Ryo Tamura, CEO of JALEC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A memorandum of understanding (MOU) has been signed that\nestablishes a framework for collaboration between the two companies, as well as\nbetween the two companies and the Japanese Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB), and\nother relevant Japanese Government agencies. This will include careful\nconsideration of regulatory requirements, safety measures, and how the\ncommunity can benefit from advanced air mobility through the use of Wisk\u2019s 6th\nGeneration self-flying, electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL)\naircraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Specifically, the MOU establishes a framework for: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Research towards launching fleet operations for\nWisk\u2019s 6th Generation taxi, including type certification approval in Japan and\nmaintenance, repair and overhaul requirements<\/li><li>Supporting discussion with the Japanese Civil\nAviation Bureau (JCAB) and relevant Japanese Government agencies, as\nappropriate, on the establishment of a Wisk operation under an Air Operators\nCertificate in Japan in the future<\/li><li>Development of a path to a demonstration flight\nin Japan<\/li><li>Introduction of autonomous aircraft into the\nJapanese national airspace system<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled to be announcing this new partnership with\nJapan Airlines, a partner that so closely shares our values,\u201d says Catherine\nMacGowan, Wisk\u2019s APAC Regional Director. \u201cJapan represents a large, densely\npopulated market where air taxi services can provide real, positive impact for\nlocal communities.
