{"id":25569,"date":"2023-05-15T14:15:51","date_gmt":"2023-05-15T14:15:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/saj.pachecostudios.com?p=25569"},"modified":"2023-05-15T14:15:52","modified_gmt":"2023-05-15T14:15:52","slug":"nbaa-joins-in-call-to-house-leaders-to-support-aviation-workforce-development-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stateaviationjournal.com\/index.php\/aviation-education\/nbaa-joins-in-call-to-house-leaders-to-support-aviation-workforce-development-act\/%20","title":{"rendered":"NBAA Joins in Call to House Leaders to Support Aviation Workforce Development Act"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) today\njoined a coalition of 20 aviation companies and industry groups in urging\nleaders of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways &amp; Means to\nact swiftly in support of legislation to assist students pursuing aviation\ncareers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>H.R.1818, the Aviation Workforce Development Act, would\namend the Internal Revenue Code to allow 529 college savings plans to be used\nfor education-related expenses at FAA-certified private commercial pilot and\naviation maintenance technician schools, reducing financial barriers to entry\nfor aspiring aviators and aircraft mechanics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The House measure was introduced last month by Reps. Mike\nCollins, (R-10-GA), Mike Kelly (R-16-PA), Jimmy Panetta (D-19-CA) and Aviation\nSubcommittee Ranking Member Steve Cohen (D-9-TN). A similar bill by Sen. Tim\nScott (R-NC) is expected to soon be introduced in the Senate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nbaa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/professional-development\/workforce-initiatives\/HR-1818-Coalition-Letter.pdf\">Read the letter to committee leaders.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe bipartisan group of co-sponsors, combined with the\ncoalition of industry and labor support, suggests consensus about the\ncommonsense nature of this policy,\u201d noted the May 10 letter to House Ways &amp;\nMeans Chairman Rep. Jason Smith (R-8-MO) and Ranking Member Rep. Richard Neal\n(D-1-MA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The letter goes on to note that \u201cH.R. 1818 [will address\nthe] growing need for aviators and aircraft mechanics by giving Americans the\nsame tools to choose a career in aviation as those seeking four-year degrees.\nWith this legislation, Congress can deliver a win for American families, the\naviation industry and workers and consumers of air services.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to its strong support for H.R.1818, NBAA also\nwelcomed last month\u2019s introduction of The Flight Education Access Act\n(H.R.2874), which would increase the federal student loan limits under Title IV\nof the Higher Education Act of 1965 for students in flight education and\ntraining programs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) today joined a coalition of 20 aviation companies and industry groups in urging leaders of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways &amp; Means to act swiftly in support of legislation to assist students pursuing aviation careers.
