He replaces Jeff Marker, who is retiring\nin early June after nine years with the department and four years as Aero\u2019s\nAdministrator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In leaving, Marker stated he is incredibly honored to have\nhad the opportunity to work for ITD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is an extraordinarily professional group, and I feel\nprivileged to have been at least a small part of the team,\u201d Marker explained.\n\u201cAero and ITD will be in great hands as Tom takes over as Administrator.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mahoney brings enthusiasm and a wealth of Idaho experience\nto the new position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am thrilled to be selected,\u201d Mahoney said. \u201cI am glad to\ncontinue to contribute to air commerce and safety in Idaho, a state that\nbenefits tremendously from aviation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mahoney has been a military aviator, aircraft owner,\nsmall-business owner, flight instructor, and air charter pilot in Idaho for the\npast 30 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI will use all of those skills as I serve the team members\nin the Aeronautics Division,\u201d he added. \u201cI look forward to continuing Jeff\nMarker\u2019s legacy and supporting the vision and mission of the Idaho\nTransportation Department.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aviation runs in Mahoney\u2019s blood. \u201cAviation has been a\npassion of mine since winning an art contest for United Airlines when I was\neight years old,\u201d he said. \u201cMy father was a United Airlines employee, so I had\nearly exposure to many great people in aviation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like Marker, Mahoney has an Air Force background. He is a\ngraduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy (Physics), Air Force Test Pilot School,\nMaster of Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle University, and an MBA from\nthe Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
