The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has\nannounced it has received $4 million total from the U.S. Department of\nTransportation (USDOT) Strengthening Mobility and Revolutionizing\nTransportation (SMART) Grant Program. \nThe money will support the Commonwealth of Massachusetts\u2019 Aeronautics\nand Rail and Transit Division\u2019s clean energy grid and climate-related\ninitiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The MassDOT Aeronautics Division received a $2 million grant\naward which will be used to support the planning of a smart microgrid that\ngenerates and distributes clean, reliable power at Cape Cod Gateway Airport in\nHyannis, facilitating reliable charging of electric ground vehicles (including\nbuses) and in future, aircraft. In collaboration with Cape Cod Gateway Airport\nand the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority, the initiative aims to increase\nclean energy independence while supporting the historically disadvantaged\ncommunity living near the Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
